Repashy shelf life

12 years ago, I was in rehab for a heroin addiction. The place I stayed at was a homeless shelter/drug rehab. We were served expired, donated food. Obviously, it couldn’t be moldy, rotting, or anything like that. It was basically anything that may have been a couple of days to weeks (depending on the food) expired. Everyone in there put on weight and no one ever got food sick. I imagine that if it’s good enough for humans then fish will fare just fine.
It’s always fascinated me how some of us care for their fish (pets in general) better than they care for themselves. I’m guilty of this to the max.
Since you have the option, I would make the whole jar up, cut it into desired sized cubes, and freeze them. This will just make it easier to feed for the next couple of months and you’re within the expiration date.
ps I haven’t picked up a drug since then so maybe the food was better than I thought. 😎

Having grown up in a large family and a father who was an NCO in the Navy, we learned early that pretty much no food goes to waste. Milk went sour? Make pancakes. Is cheese moldy? Cut off the mold and use the rest. Is raw chicken smelling funky? soak it for several hours in salt water brine before cooking. I could go on and on. With only a few exceptions, I will eat food that is beyond its expiration date and I suspect that fish will do the same.
