Rita Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 Hey guys! I have some repashy that I’ve opened a year ago… anyone know what the shelf life is? I know the shelf life once it’s prepared, but how about just sitting in the jars on the shelf after opening?
Chick-In-Of-TheSea Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 The bottle does have an expiration date on it; I checked mine earlier today to be sure it was still within the date.
DaveO Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 Glad you brought that up. Mine goes out of date on 2/2023. These poor fish better get ready for an overdose of Repashy this week! 2 1

nabokovfan87 Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 I don't think they'll mind that at all! 1
Rita Posted January 25, 2023 Author Posted January 25, 2023 I guess what I’m gathering from people is it’s good until the expiration even after opening? If that’s the case then I feel better about not wasting almost full jars 😂

tekjunkie28 Posted January 26, 2023 Posted January 26, 2023 The date is on the bottle for legal reasons. The food likely when bad long ago unless it was absolutely air tight.
Val Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Most human food/meds are edible/efficacious long past their expiration dates. I would presume it's the same with fish food. 2
mynameisnobody Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 12 years ago, I was in rehab for a heroin addiction. The place I stayed at was a homeless shelter/drug rehab. We were served expired, donated food. Obviously, it couldn’t be moldy, rotting, or anything like that. It was basically anything that may have been a couple of days to weeks (depending on the food) expired. Everyone in there put on weight and no one ever got food sick. I imagine that if it’s good enough for humans then fish will fare just fine. It’s always fascinated me how some of us care for their fish (pets in general) better than they care for themselves. I’m guilty of this to the max. Since you have the option, I would make the whole jar up, cut it into desired sized cubes, and freeze them. This will just make it easier to feed for the next couple of months and you’re within the expiration date. ps I haven’t picked up a drug since then so maybe the food was better than I thought. 😎 1 3
JJenna Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Having grown up in a large family and a father who was an NCO in the Navy, we learned early that pretty much no food goes to waste. Milk went sour? Make pancakes. Is cheese moldy? Cut off the mold and use the rest. Is raw chicken smelling funky? soak it for several hours in salt water brine before cooking. I could go on and on. With only a few exceptions, I will eat food that is beyond its expiration date and I suspect that fish will do the same. 2
