Greg Robertson
Hi Everyone, I am rebuilding my 72 bowfront, I wanted a black substrate for what wil be a planted tank. I ordered 3 10L bags of Ultum Nature Systems Controsoil. Sadly once in the aquarium it was no even close to Black, It's a rather ugly brown. Any ideas about placing a top layer of something b;ack over the top of it?
Mmiller2001
A thin layer of coarse Black Diamond blasting sand would work.

Jurrian Hering
You could also do a layer of basic black gravel if you don't like sand. will work just as well.

T. Payne
I believe blasting sand will settle out and find its way to the bottom through your substrate.

Biotope Biologist
Try weed screen/landscaping cloth and cut out holes where plants will go? Unless you plan on carpeting the ground with plants.

It will need a good amount of rinsing, but that's not a big deal.
