Not a fish, but I'm kind of doing it now with my first attempt with Neocaridinas (Fire Reds).  One other that I've always wanted is off the beaten track.... Mudminnows (native species).  Use to catch them when I was a kid and have always been fascinated by them for some reason.

Yes! Mudminnows are great natives indeed.

Here is an excellent NANFA article on keeping them.

Parosphromenus juelinae

I am crushing on  . . . Parosphromenus harveyi right now . . .

Ugh, you and @Colu are a bad influence!  I have the opposite water that these things need.  Rock hard with high pH.  But they have me thinking about how I can keep a pair.  You two are the worst!  🤪

On the journey towards becoming a Master Breeder in our fish club, a certain number of CARES species must be propagated.

That's awesome!  I wish our BAP program had that requirement.  You can see fingerprints on the lists for programs like those from the interests of the folks who set them up.  Because MAS is over 90 years old, we have some BAP stuff I think should be updated.  But I'm not in charge...  Yet.  😏

I recall a similar looking species from Argentina: Austrolibias nigripinnis.

Indeed!  It is interesting how certain patterns and color combinations have evolved multiple times.  Of course, each of the species has very different behaviors.  If you are into a little fish that hovers in the water and sneaks about through the vegetation, then the Elassoma species are a better choice.  However, I like the Aphanius species because of their energy.  But they are pupfish, so they are zippy (what some call mildly aggressive).  I imagine if you into that annual killi reproductive cycle, then Austrolebias nigripinnis would be the way to go.

and create a larger tank of these possibly by spring/early summer.

I would love for you to DM me the source. I WILL be getting these. These are amazing must haves. Thank you for suggesting them as I never heard of them.

I'm happy to send you the contact whenever the time is right.  Let me check with the breeder and see how he'd want to go about it.  I know he wants to get them out to more folks.  He's been trying to get me to keep them for sometime - and tempted as I am - I simply don't have space if I am going to start marine keeping.  I'll try to DM you today.

Any of the Nothobranchius Killi fish, and similar. I would love to have a few hatching rotations for a main living room display tank. I can put the culls in there, then add the breeders when they're done doing their jobs.

Gotcha covered! Nothobranchius rachovii biera 98

Eggs from these won’t hatch til Feb 14-March 2023, but I’ll save you some!

For me the one day fish is a group of pea puffers.might not seem all that exotic to most of you but they are $200+ a piece here in oz.for now i just have to be happy with my saltwater puffers instead which is easy to do.

Wow thats crazy! like $5 usd here. I mostly keep plecos and have seen some of the crazy prices for them out of oz. Cant imagine what something like a cross river puffer would sell for there (if even available?).

Its because we cant import any fw puffers so someone has to smuggle in a breeding group before they become availble to the hobby in general.as far as im aware pea puffers are the only fw puffers available in aus right now any others would have to be smuggled in and worth a ridiculous amount.
