Guppies

What kind of guppies are these?  I bought them as fancy males.  I want to breed them. Should I try a specific type or just get some assorted females and see what happens?   I’m learning towards the assorted group as it will be easier/cheaper  to get probably. 
 

 

 

The light really affects the color. The larger black body is really nice looking to me.

Those are very sharp looking guppies. I don’t know what the strain would be called.

@Guppysnail @Fish Folk or anyone else, any ideas on these guppies?   Are they destined to be “fancy” guppies?  Is it possible to breed a different strain from them or will they ultimately be fancy?

I have no clue about line breeding. I outcross mine to avoid inbreeding wherever possible.

I’m trying to figure out if they are close to a known line or if they look like most other fancies.

you can end up with some great looking guppys that way. if you get some you really like out of that, then cull and try to make a line if you feel the need.

Hmm… maybe a take on the “dragonhead” guppy?

Now to find the batch of females.  LFS hasn’t received any in a few weeks.  I’ll try a different store.

They are definitely fancies, but that doesn't mean they weren't crossed with commons, also known as feeders. I have some cross strain males who look very similar. They come from combining a Red Tail Green Cobra parent with a first generation 50/50 Fancy/Common parent. All accidental. If there are any common genetics in their genes, you'll for sure see it in the next generation.
