Patai3295
Woke up to again my HOB filter burned out not knowing how it even happened all my clocks are normal I dont believe we lost power. Ended up having a spare motor and shes up and running again Anyways ordered a medium sponge filter from cory for my 20g long. Wondering what you guys would recommend as far as time, leaving the new sponge filter in while keeping the HOB running so I dont crash anything. And when I can remove the HOB and all the media Thanks for any input
evilgenius
I would personally run it at least 2 weeks and then do a water test to see where your parameters are.
TeeJay
Yes I run 2 med sponge filters. One on each side of the tank and my hob as well. And if you get the co op air pump it has the built in batt so if you loose power your good for at least 6 hours. Thats what I do in my 29 gal. That way when you clean one sponge you always have one still seeded with bacteria.
lefty o
3 or 4 days will get it sufficiently seeded with bacteria.
Brandon p
For a 20 gal you just need one medium co-op sponge. The problem is probably the impeller. You have want to check. If you give me the model I can tell you if it’s worth popping a now impeller in some are really inexpensive. I just had one fail.
RonBFree
Get the SF going then take your dirty filter media from HOB and squeeze in in the tank water a couple of times. Run both for 2 weeks then remove SF. You should be good to go.
