@DaveOthis is how it started on about November 12th

On about November 24th I had the first large visible signs of growth (I can't find pictures of the roots)

here's a pic from this morning

Co2 was added on Nov 20th, but IMO the biggest reason people fail with this plant is because most error on the side of starving their plants of light (myself included at times) in an effort to control algea. Unless there are any unforseen incidents I predict this stem will make it and hopefully I can compare the 2 different varieties of AR side by side.

Thank you for your response. Here's a pic of the last stem I have planted and the last floating. The crypt next to them keeps overgrowing them so I have to trim it back.  I forgot to keep the crypt trimmed and the floating scarlet rotted at the substrate. So I guess it actually floated itself. When I first set up this tank it grew well but now that it is surrounded it is struggling. 20221205_102206.jpg.90bb073306f28b0e8a7cf21e4ed109af.jpg20221205_102314.jpg.2e67e7a011927fda968142868c6824d0.jpg

Looks good,  here's a nifty little adaptation I just thought of when reflecting on why my scarlet temple failed. It was because I failed to notice it wasn't reacting properly to my light.....

Thats when a light bulb turned on in my head! My recently purchased Ludwigia Mini also wasn't reacting properly to my light. And presto! The patent pending plant pedestal was born!! 🤣🤣

I haven't really updated this since its pretty much grow, trim, grow, trim, ect. I made a few changes to my non-scape scape and it about time for a trim again, so figured a current pic was well past due.

i can see it now... that look in it's eye.  The PSO is just waiting to go jungle on you and take over! 😂

It's actually interesting, I made one small adjustment to my flow & a nutritional change, and my plants went from growing tall & lanky, to growing nice, compact and like gangbusters!

Still haven't trimmed, just posted to compare 1 week of growth! Learning the importance of calcium,  magnesium, sulfer and improved flow has paid off big!

PSO is such a weed! 😂

How is the little suction cup planters doing for you in the taller tank?  Have you been able to keep algae at bay on those plants?

In the planter is hygrophla corymbosa which is pretty much a weed in itself with a massive root system when it gets bigger. As you can see from the planter I pretty much butchered it but it keeps growing. As for algea I've never really had a problem with it, its incredibly beneficial for your tank so unless its growing on new growth I don't get concerned. I'll snap a picture of my outflow after I trim, the thing is absolutely caked with a big beautiful bush of BBA!

I had underestimated how important this is. It's paying off big time for me also. Looks like a huge difference in that tank shot.

The flow adjustment was actually a happy little accident. My original air pump burnt out and while waiting for a replacement I ran my skimmer (which doubles as a output suppressant) non stop till my new pump arrived.

That BBA is stunning and impressive. I’ve never gotten any to grow past the awkward looking early stages.
It now has become such a thing of beauty a name might be in order if you have not already given it one.

Thank you! I honestly don't know how I did it, and probably couldn't do it again if I tried. IMO it was a combination of lighting which I have always ran for an incredibly long time (14h), changing to EI dosing and most importantly the addition of low levels of co2 in November which helped my plants grow faster, maybe fending off the algae?

That’s a great idea. I never would have thought if that.

See whats left in the morning, in my other tank I put just some of the shrimp shell. I only saw one snail on that one,.  Ill bet the legs will be eaten  faster on account of the assassins need to chew the shell to get to the meat. Best yet its well protected from the fish devouring the legs before the snails get some!

@GuppysnailThis is what was left in the morning and they are still going at it. Im going to have the best fed snails in town particularly because its a good excuse to buy myself shrimp, lump crab meat, scallops and other high calcium seafood items because welp....... I gotta feed the assassins! 😂
