Quarantining pea puffers

Recommended Posts

I know about the whole 1 puffer per 3 gallon thing, but I was wondering if just for quarantine while treating with the med trio I could put 6 pea puffers in a 10 gallon, or if they’d kill eachother and need to be separated. I could always move some of them to their tank they’re gonna go in, but still was just wanting second opinions.

It may work for the short term if you provide a lot of cover and line-of-sight breaks in the quarantine tank. Since it is a quarantine tank, maybe live plants is not an option for you, but maybe you could use some plastic ones, other decorations, clay pots, etc. Just keep an eye on things daily.

I’ve done denser population with juveniles in a 10 gallon with very dense plastic plants.  With adults, it would be a recipe for disaster or potentially breeding.  🤷🏻‍♀️ You would fairly likely be safe with juvies, but keep a very close eye on behavior and plan for emergency evacuation of offenders if needed.
