Cup Over Sponge Filter Idea

So Irene had a video where she showed a cup being placed above a sponge filter to prevent the splash back from hitting the lid of the aquarium as much. 

This is my biggest complaint about using sponge filters so I want to try it. The look of the cup was unappealing to me so I went on the hunt for a similar item to try.

Hoping this would be a cleaner looking  version of a cup.

Not loving but I will try it to see if grows me. Thoughts?

Yeah that was the idea behind me using this. I thought a clear solo cup looked wonky and cheap.

And I’m with you on how annoying I find the spray from the filter or airstone!

LRB showed the drink lids quite a while ago. they look to work. some day i might have to give it a try.

I was just looking at that product the other day.  My biggest concern is that outside the cup it no longer breaks up the surface tension.  I like the drink lid just above the water idea though.  I'd love a product like that that doesn't look awful too.  I'd buy one for sure.
