Phillip
I always do water changes just using the cold side of the faucet. I live in south Louisiana so cold isn’t something we usually think about. It’s been pretty cold the past couple of weeks (for us anyway 🤣). After my water change I checked the temp and the tank was at 69. The tank is set for 78 degrees. The temp slowly came up the next hour or so until it returned to normal. Is this ok or should I be using hot water also? Thanks! Edited January 28, 2022 by Phillip
KittenFishMom
I often wonder about this. I fill buckets in the tub, mixing hot and cold until I am at 78 for the tetras or guppies, 82 for the betta, and 66 for the native tank. Should the replacement water temp match the tank temp? Guppysnail
I microwave a container of water for small changes or use a 5 gallon stock pot for large and boil to mix with the cold (PA my tap was 44 degrees we think about cold 🤣) to get close and premix. Sometimes I do a cooler water change on catfish tanks but not guppy tanks. An 11 degree quick swing like that might be a bit much for warm water fish. I’m not an expert though I just avoid fish stress at all costs.
KaitieG
I mix cold and hot from the tap to get close. I don't check with a thermometer anymore, but I give it a hand swoosh and get it approximate.
Mmiller2001
10 degrees would worry me. I like to keep no more/ less than 2 degrees.
lefty o
i mix hot/cold to get desired temp. 2 or 3 degree's one way or the other would not concern me, but 10 would, especially going colder.
Phillip
Thanks everyone! Hopefully everything is ok this time. I’ll start blending in some hot water while it’s cold out.
