Karen B.
I have 3 mature clown killifish in a 15 gallons cycled planted tank, with 3 nerite snail and 5-7 orange shrimps.Temp is between 75 and 77. ph between 7.4 and 7.6, kh 4, gh 8, 0/0/(between 0 and 20). 30% WC + gravel siphon every week. The group is separated in a mated pair and another female (sometimes chased away either by the male or the other female). I bred my killifish and ended up with 13 babies. They are about 2 months now and 2 days ago I added them in the tank. Some are still small, others are almost adult size. 2 males started getting their color. Today I saw that my casted away female has a white bump on her lower lips. She still swim and eats. But she is flashing a lot of plants. I also noticed the male flashing once yesterday. What could it be? Can/should I treat the whole tank? My hospital tank is already occupied by my sick green neon tetras. As the female seems really bullied, should I Isolate her with 3-4 of the smallest babies (they prefer to be in group I read?) I do have a 5 gallons with the same parameters currently occupied only by 5 adults shrimps and a couple of little 4-5 days old babies. But in that tank too something seems off as i keep losing an adult shrimp every week or 2 weeks... I am starting to feel like a serial fish killer.
Fish Folk
Oof.... very sorry to hear. It's hard to tell if this is just an injury, or manifestation of a disease. If disease, look into "Cottonmouth" as a possibility. Here's the google boilerplate... Columnaris can be treated with Erythromycin. If it were me, I'd probably treat the whole tank.
Colu
Does it look like scales have been rubbed off or does it have a fluffy appearance

It does look like a raised scale which could explain why she is flashing?

Dwayne Brown
I would start by treating the flashing the easiest way possible. I would add aquarium salt to the tank or set up a quarantine tank and add the salt to that, just be sure to follow the instructions. Then wait about 3 to 4 days and see if there is any improvement in either the bump or the flashing. Be sure to also do water changes. If there is improvement great. if not it might be to isolate the one with the white bump and start meds. Maybe it's just me but with fish I like to use meds last after trying some less stressful (for the fish) treatments.

Colu
Flashing can be caused by parasites or white spot can cause flashing when it's on the gills I would treat with paracleanse and maracyn together to cover all Edited July 7, 2021 by Colu
quikv6
If the white lips are indeed Columnaris, you would need something that treats gram-negative bacteria. I believe Erythromycin is for gram positive. The bump makes me lean towards more of an injury, though.
