Jack
I have had my 10 gallon set up for 10 days and the ammonia spike has already happened but I seem to be stuck on the nitrite spike. The spike started on the 13 so it has been going for 4 days. Any Advice or Observations? I am doing the cycle with a betta fish in the tank. TheDukeAnumber1
Sounds about right, just be patient, your beneficial bacteria needs time to develop. To keep things developing at full speed you can keep your temperatures up and make sure to run an air stone so the bacteria have plenty of oxygen. Nick Y
@JackI used Fritz TurboStart to start my cycle and I monitor the ammonia and nitrites twice a day. If either are elevated, I add a little of Fritz Zyme 7 I got from Aquarium Co Op. If you're not adding any type of supplementary beneficial bacteria, that may help. Administrators Cory Posted September 17, 2020 Administrators Share Posted September 17, 2020 I recommend cycling a tank with plants in it as it's much easier in my opinion. Here is a video I did on how I do it.
Jack
I was wondering if I should be doing daily water changes or only do water changes when the ammonia or nitrite gets a little high during the cycle.

If you have prime or complete or safe I would double dose it to make it not toxic to give your bacteria time to catch up and still convert it while still not being toxic
