RobHart28
Just scored an INSANE deal on a 150 gal tank and stand far too good to pass up. How many sponge filters would I need for this thing or would you recommend something else.
Yanni
Congrats on the deal! I would try to do at least 4 sponge filters but it really depends on what you are going to be putting in the tank. If you're doing monster fish, I'd do at least 2 sponge filters and a canister filter or a sump. If you're doing something else, I would try for at least 4 sponge filters but if you have any other things like HOB filters or canister filters, use those as well.
FriendlyLoach
My recipe for a tank is a few sponge filters and a whole lot of plants. 🙂 1
anewbie
You could try a hamburg matten filter. Swiss tropical sells them if you don't want to design your own. It is basically a very large sponge with a strong air bubbler. A lot depends on your fish population and circulation. The substrate can help with filtration but only if you force water to flow through it. 1
RobHart28
I just got plants still waiting to plant them in my 60. Once they propagate I'll have more to plant in a 150.
