  1. Step Bros reference if you didnt get it. Anyway, I finally got my female Koi and my Male Crowntail to breed! He has some awesome iridescence in on his body and the tips of the tail or white.
  2. Hello, So here's what happened. It was the third breeding attempt for a pair of bettas. A few weeks separating every attempt. Male was making bubble nests and she obviously had a LOT of eggs ready in a large belly. Setup is a plastic tub with a top and heater, catapa leaves and moss. Acclimation with a pierced bottle for the female. First attempt was a failure, without agression, but no real breeding. Second attempt had breeding behavior, embraces and all for hours and hours, but no eggs. Third attempt had breeding behavior, embraces, and a very few eggs before the male chased her away. After I removed her and put her back to her tank, he lost interest for the few eggs scattered in bubbles, and ended up eating them. The day after, she actually dropped a huge quantity of eggs in her tank, by herself. So the female is older than the male, she probably was sort of eggbound and I started to be worried that she would be stuck in some ways. I saw the eggdrop as a good thing, she still has the white thing pointing out a lot, still looks like she's full of eggs, but at least she is not enormous and almost deformed like before. What do you think? Have you ever seen this eggdropping from a female betta after a failed breeding attempt? I never let them together for more than 3 days, as I feel like with frustration and small volume of water, they could fight, even though they really seem to not resort to violence. These bettas seem to really get along and to want to breed. I am planning on trying again in two to three weeks. Let me know if you have any advice or explanation. Thanks.
  3. I recently got my 10g tank up and running and have 3 Cory's (not sure of sex), 7 Tetras (3 female, 4 male) and 5 Guppies (2 female, 3 male). One female guppy was pregnant when purchased and had her fry in a matter of a few days. It was killed off by the community shortly after. A few days later another female became pregnant and had her fry this morning. I was only able to save 3 of the bunch as I didn't have time to separate before she gave birth. Right now I have the 3 in a breeder box and don't expect them to live but will do my best. My question is, how often can I expect guppies to be pregnant in this type of a community setup?
  4. I went to feed my Wild Betta Splendens (Super Reds) this evening and to my shock they had been busy and the male was tending to a an overflowing bubble nest! I've been watching and waiting for him to blow a nest but I totally missed him constructing this one along the side of the glass in their blackwater tank. Don't tell him, but his nest is kind of puny! I'm used to my domestics who blow huge nests just in case! I added a piece of bubble wrap to reinforce it for him. Also, I've removed the female because daddy has become very protective and kept chasing her away. I'm loving watching daddy tend to his nest, but TBH, I'm anxious about tending to my first betta spawn! If my Betta Smaragdina Guitar pair decides to spawn it is going to be a full house in my fish/bedroom! (Both these pairs came from Taylor of Simply Betta.) This is my first time spawning bettas of any kind, so I'd love to hear about any experiences people have had breading bettas (especially wild bettas).
