I came here with the same question! I have a bunch of fry from my Japanese blue endler. 2 are gold. Do you have any photos of them full grown?
Almost my entire population perished because of a ich outbreak, but the survivors have reengineered some gold babies…they aren’t full grown, but the previous ones were.
I can tell you that they don’t pass on the gold gene to their fry (at least not directly) and that the males look absolutely amazing. 🤩- 1

I think it is a time for a change
The indostomus are with me for over a year now. I know when I moved them last June, there were 8, as I managed to count all of them when moving their bamboo tubes, easiest fish to catch ever. I know I lost one a month ago, and I know I have two for sure, cause I keep seeing two fish. However not more. I keep feeding like there are fish int here, which creates an algae, and with the removal of shrimp, noone cleans up. The tank looks empty all the time and having the fish did not result in them breeding, removing the shrimp didnt result in breeding, so I am done trying to breed them. I want to add something to the tank to liven it up.
I have two options:
move a pair of clown killifish (and get a lid) from my other tank, or get least killifish (Heterandria formosa), have a trio perhaps, two pairs, something like that. People here keep them in small volume without issues, should have their own breeding cap. Or I could move my last remaining endler male in here
Not sure yet, advice much appreciated!
spot the fish
The darios work so far, trio is not having issues, I saw only two for a long time but during feeding the third popped up. Also issue with algae, because darios are slow eaters and force me to overfeed, also crypt melt. I am not as in love with the dario as lets say the clown killifish. Maybe I was too excited, or maybe I have a spring gloom, not sure. I mean it is nice, all works, the colors, but... The spawning mop is there for some day, to collect clown killifish eggs, once the luminatus fry grows up and moves from the cube
behold the "crypts"
Speaking of the fry in the box, it is doing ok, growing steadily. Will wait some more before moving it to parents tank. No picture because... tiny 🙂
So what do you think?
Move the clown killis because @Guppysnail can vouch for least killis breeding like CRAZY... apart from that I think they look cool. 😎

Maybe no filter whatsoever? I kept a 2 liter jar on my bedside table with a few shrimp and Anubias in there for a couple of months and they ended up doing rather well. I didn't use a cover, so regular topping up may have helped.
Alternatively, Maybe just a plain old relaible sponge filter could work.

Depends on the dominant genetics, but in my experience swordtails and platys will breed pretty readily when put together... Swordtails are pretty bad fry eaters, and you may not get any fry at all.

How's the salt water tank going?
You've been quite fit a while, hopefully that doesn't mean something bad happened
Leg and arm are doing so much better!! I spent Xmas like a vegetable, and the last months have been hectic with uni preparations, physio appointments and crud like that…
How is everyone?
My Endler population (and YouTube channel!) has been exploding in the last few months, and I finally started a saltwater tank!

His parental instincts may come in to play. He’ll be more focused on keeping the other fish away than on eating the eggs.
I’d use the adult platies if I were you. More robust than fry. -

An interesting thing happened today. When I feed white worms I'll pick them out of the culture, rinse them in a cup of aquarium water, and then use a pipette to feed them to the fish. Today I was feeding when my wife asked me to help her with something. I came back and am hour later to find that the worms were crawling up the pipette to get out of the water:
Quite useful for the lazy fish keeper…😅

If you put some dither fish in who won’t harm the eggs (pleco, Oto, etc) he may take better care of them…I haven’t had this problem before when I bred mine.

The tank has had some new arrivals and departures recently.
Departures:
First, the small belly slider killifish passed away. I'm not sure exactly why, I had noticed that he was getting skinnier so I was making an effort to target feed him directly but I suspect it was just his time due to birth defects.
Second, I gave away a bag of guppies. Still a ton left to figure out but better than nothing.
Arrivals:
A pair of American flagfish. They just got done quarantining. They were surrendered to the LFS near me because they were "too aggressive". From the looks of them they weren't in great shape. They were extremely shy when I first put them in quarantine but their appetite came back and they aren't as shy now. So far I haven't seen anything that looks like aggression. Hopefully there's enough cover for them to feel comfortable. I am a bit nervous that they may get territorial if they start breeding but then seem very young
Not the greatest picture of him but honestly he's not much to look at just yet:
Need to be able to spot him to start with 😂

I’m boooooored of sitting around watching fish all day! Time for a new tank 😈. On my way back from the hospital I stopped by a saltie LFS to see what I could put in a marine tank…
Corals cool, don’t get me wrong, but plants have something more uniform and natural (and cheaper!!!) about them…we’ll see where this goes.
My latest short on YouTube:I found the term ‘Lifelapse’ kinda fitting : lifetime+ Timelapse.
Have a nice day!

I'm debating between putting a sparring mop in here directly or moving the female to another tank for a couple days to condition her and then adding a male and a mop. Any suggestions?
@Lowells Fish Lab did a tank seperated in the middle by a semi-transparent partition so that the fish could see each other but not spawn…I’ll link the vid…

Macro gives a real rockpool vibe to it…it’s a bit like a saltwater planted tank in a way…
Tigahboy did an amazing thing with that tank. 😍

Chasing Coral is a really wonderful film and speaks to hobbyist
It really hit a note with me because I’ve seen all the effects of warming seas on corals and whatnot. Definitely makes you want to keep some yourself to see what the fuss is all about 😂

Nice tank! I can see it as a really cool scape if you added some more plants with CO2. Maybe try attaching a plant to the rock. The Easy Flow kit is making me jealous 😂.

You can try Reverse respiration, if you’re willing to remove your Java fern from your tank.

@Chick-In-Of-TheSea your garlic Ich remedy works like a charm (get a patent!): this guy had about 20 cysts on him yesterday.

There’s annoying algae and then there’s decorative algae…the Lorax would definitely agree with the latter. 😄

Nice! You can see the Bolivians sparring and I really like the forest of Aponogetons on the surface.

Do mangrove grow like swamp trees - what i mean is the root structure massive in the bottom of the tank and will they eventually get too thick for a small aquarium (i mean the trunk) ?
According to google it seems that it can take them 2 years to get to 6 feet if grown in a conservatory…but apparently in aquariums they stay at 80 cm or so due to nutrients and space etc

Alternatively get some Amano shrimp if it’s long and stringy (hair algae).
