  1. What would you say is the max amount of Kuhlis you’d put in one tank? Mines a 29 gallon.
  2. @laritheloud yeah sounds like mine. They’ll be fine. I can’t wait to get more.
  3. @laritheloud just give them some stuff to hide in, fed, and the waters good and in a few days they should calm down. That being said my chocolates are crack heads and never sit still. They get their selves all wound up in plants, head stuck in gravel to get at food, and surf the glass a bit. @anewbie is that store online and ships fish by chance? I’m also looking for gold and silvers too. Aquabids hasn’t had anything. My LFS got me good when I called and asked if they had any Pygmy corries and Kuhlis. They mixed it up and said they had several albino Kuhlis. I think I made a new land speed record getting to that store but alas they were wrong.
  4. @anewbie do you have the giants by chance? I’m absolutely in love with Kuhlis and trying to collect every species I can find. I’m curious if the giant species is more aggressive and shouldn’t be mixed with other Kuhlis.
  5. @laritheloud if all of them are doing it then this is a sign of the following. 1) poor water quality. Despite what people say they do in fact of scales but really tiny. This means like scaleless fish medications and water are a thing you have to consider. This also means aquarium salt. 2) they’re stressed and lack a hiding place or if you have one there isn’t enough. 3) if it’s just 1 or 2 but the others are fine then they may be hungry and hunting for floating detritus worms or anything they can eat. 4) it’s too bright and you startled them. Same can be said for if the tanks in a high traffic area and people keep walking by or stopping and looking at them. that being said it can easily just be they’re stressed from the new environment or something else but I’m leaning to stress and water/meds. Here’s a pic of my tank and I always have one sitting out or doing something. Side note though is my tanks normally more planted. I was gone for 2 weeks and the tank wasn’t getting enough nitrates so they died back a bit.
  6. My tanks planted pretty heavy so they tend to come out and sit on the sides under the cryps and sponge filter or under the wood in the middle of the tank. I was just shocked how active the chocolates are. They’re from different stores too since I couldn’t find enough at my main place.
  7. @Sumson that’s it. I couldn’t remember it for some reason. Thank you
  8. I got these the other day and can’t remember for the life of me what the name was and they didn’t come with a name tag to save.
  9. I’ve tried to do some research on this but I’m not finding anything on it. So I already had six 8 banded Kuhli loaches and for the most part they were active. I would see one glass surfing now and again or just hanging at the local filtering hole. A month ago I picked up 6 more Kuhlis but chocolates now. I added them 2 weeks ago and they’re always out and about but now my stripes are barely out even at night. I still see one from time to time and during a big water change I saw about 4-5 come out. Has anyone ever had this issue? I know they’re not the same species per say but I thought they could go together like cardinal and neon tetras. edit- Something I didn’t think about was Im away from home alot and a family member takes care of the tank for the most part Just adding some frozen food or pellets every other day I came back today and tested my auto feeder and it was clogged up as it had bin sitting over the sponge filter and got some water in it over time. I changed that and put it somewhere else and fed them a good bit. Now 4 of the striped Kuhlis came out with in the last hour. I wonder if this was over food and the chocolates were being territorial over food. Sorry for the bad pic of the chocolates. They’re by the HOB that I just changed and it’s kicking out crap.
  10. What’s everyone’s opinion on dojos mates? I know the one thing about them is they like it a bit cold. Around 65° to 75° from why I’ve looked at. im getting a 125and getting a couple different ones like albinos and natural colored ones. These will be my main fish. This tank will have 2 large pieces of wood set in a way that there’s a valley between them but at an angle that makes a blind spot if looking directly at the tank. This tank will have a mic of gravel and sand with a lot of plants. I was thinking of getting a rare pleco, a couple emerald corries and then golden barbs and some congo tetras. My issue is the temp for the dojos is on the end for congos. Any opinions or alternatives? I love the colors of the males and the schooling so that’s why I’m interested in them as mid to top dwellers.
  11. @Bjorn okay that helped a lot. It looks most like 7 and parts of the leaves go translucent and mushy. This usually starts at the top down towards the stem. My tank looked like pic below a few weeks ago and I came back to my spiralis was all but gone, no anacharis to be found in the tank and my crypts and swords all having leaves like 7 or with holes in them. My rams probably devoured anything going bad. I give plenty of root tabs but I did an 80% water change and dosed and gave more tabs.
  12. @HH Morant I did it exactly and it’s yellow. Did a tetra test strip and it’s not a 0 but slightly over the shade of the first color. @GameCzar i have wood in there but haven’t used leaves lately as I have rams horn who eat them quick. I’ll try them again. Thank you.
  13. Just wondering. My plants went from nice and lush for over 3 months to melted back bad. The only thing is my gh - 9 kh - 3 nitrates - 0 ammonia - 0 PH went from 6.8 to 8 I dose with thrive-c and ez root tabs fluval stratum substrate I’m guessing it’s the PH so what’s an easy way to keep it low besides water changes and adding RO water?
  14. Thank you. That’s a pretty good article.
  15. Where do you guys get your black worms and how much should I get for 12 Kuhlis, 10 harlequins, 16 cardinal tetras and some ottos and Pygmy corries? I’ve read online that I have to rinse them in aged chilled water about 40°-50° Daily and keep them in the fridge. Is this true?
  16. Okay. When should I put back my pureigen?
  17. I only dosed them on the 5 day chart you posted for this stuff. Everyone looks clear. Water is a bright green though due to the fizz tabs. I never fed them the KanaPlex. Just dosed it in the water. Do you recommend doing gradual 25% water changes to get it out or just do a big change?
  18. When do you change the water after day 5s dosing? Do I follow the instructions on the box from there on?
  19. Do you have multiple species in at once and do they cross breed?
  20. Thank you for that. I thought they just dropped the eggs in the substrate. I definitely need to read more
  21. So I’ve done my research a bit on this and from my understanding this is not easy. To the best of my knowledge, Silver and Golds are pretty much only wild caught. The normal 8 stripes and chocolate are about the only ones bread easilyish. Does anyone on here have any suggestions? These are all in a 29 gallon that’s heavenly planted. Tank mates 10 harlequins 15 cardinal tetras 7 Pygmy corries 2 mystery snails 3 nerites snails Ramshorn and bladder snails Food Xstream nano flakes Hikari sinking potties pellets Pleco wafers Frozen brine shrimp Frozen bloodworms Bug bites nano Water quality PH - 6.8-7.2 Ammonia/nitrites - <.25 Nitrates - 5-10 GH - 7-9 KH - 2 Temp - 76°-78°
  22. Where can I learn more about aquatic diseases and ailments other then YouTube? Are there some books or anything that’s suggested reading for people who want to learn more?
  23. Oh I plan to get a bunch more corries. I have 3 LFS near me and 2 Petcos and 2 Petsmarts and between all of them I found 2 Pygmy corries. I have some in order now.
  24. Okay thank you. I’ll see if my LFS has it when I go for the other meds. If not then I’ll get Jungle until the flakes come in. Would you recommend me treating my quarantine tank as well for this since I took the sponge filter from the contaminated tank or just leave them alone unless they show signs?
