  1. pH - 6.8 Nitrates - 30 Hardness - 40 Nitrite - .5 Ammonia - <.25 KH/Buffer - 4 Water Temperature - issues with heater so around 70°-72° noticed this strange white thing on the back of one of the guppies tails. It’s half the size of a grain of rice and the shape of one. Just noticed it today and no one else has anything like it. This tank has about 30 guppies and fry, 5-6 ottos, 6 emerald Cory’s. It’s a 40 gallon breeder.
  2. @Fish Folk I’m tempted to do that but this is my 4 year old sons first tank that he picked everything himself minus the plants. He wanted a bunch of guppies and Cory’s so that’s what we have in the 40. I think it might be just not calibrated good so it might be set on 78° but thinks its 70°. Im going to raise it and see how it does this week and if not good then I’m getting a fluval.
  3. @Fish Folk 1. The 40 is on the middle rack of a commercial grade kitchen shelf. The 10 is below it near the floor and the 29 is on a stand at near equal hight next to it. 2. I have a glass lid from petco with the plastic cut outs on it cut to allow a tidal 55 and a auto feeder but no other space. The lid fogs up. 3-4. It’s in the living room in the only place they fit and the thermometer sensor for the house is in that room. That’s why I bought bigger heaters to compensate for lower temps. 5. I haven’t calibrated it but I’m bumping up the temp on it and seeing how it goes. 6-7. that’s true the thermometer Im using is the suction glass kind and it’s the same kind in all the tanks. The one on this is near the top verticals with the bottom red bit about 6 inches from the top of the tank.
  4. I just did a water change so left it off for a bit anyway and I turned it up to 82°.
  5. I have a 300 watt in my 40 breeder set to 78° The room temp is 65° but the tank won’t stay over 72°. I’ve unplugged and plugged back and still no change. This heater is a month old and worked at first. It gets hot and the fish are now staying near it. Should I bump it up to 82° or just pull the trigger and get a fluval? There is a vent above this tank that’s not blowing directly on it but close. However 2 other tanks (29 with a fluval 150 and 10 gallon with Aqueon 150) have no issues with temps.
  6. I ended up not getting any before you guys replied because they all say to not mix with any other meds and I need it for new fish quarantine so needed to put a lot in at once.
  7. I agree about Petco but for some reason the 3 actual LFS have nothing for parasites. I can’t find General cure either. Thank you though for that.
  8. I don’t have paraclense or any parasite meds at my LFS so I have to go to Petco and they have the following. microbe-lift - Artemiss microbe-lift - her tana api - pimafix Imagitarium - parasite remedy I know I can order online but I would rather buy local or at the very least know what the locals have that work incase of emergencies.
  9. I appreciate it. Thank you. Would you still recommend adding focus in with the KanaPlex food?
  10. So I ended up losing that one and now I lost 3 more fish. I couldn’t do the food yet as I’m waiting for garlic guard to come in the mail but focus came in this morning. No stores around have them. Now one of the guppies is showing signs of saddle back and another is showing signs of Popeyes. Several others are flashing in the sand a lot. I’ve been dosing ich-x and changing water every day and doing prime as well. I also lost 3 more guppies today but the fry are doing good. Maracyn maracyn 2 kanaplex tetra lifegaurd para cleanse ich-x jungle fungus clear aquarium salt almond leaves seachem focus
  11. Thank you. I need to get some garlic gaurd and focus and will get it going asap. How will the ich-x affect fry?
  12. 40 gallon breeder only guppies - 20 with fry PH -7.2 GH - 6-8 KH - 2 Ammonia - .25 Nitrite - <.25 Nitrate - 5 Temp - 78° I just did a 75% water change back to back and got the following results. KH, GH, and PH are not buffered and is pure tap. I was gone for several days for work and came back to a plant die off and a high ammonia spike of 2-3. One guppie was dead with no signs of why and one as a bad cotton ball fungus on its tail. This is a new tank set up. Only 2 weeks old and the guppies are from the same store so all went in. I never did any meds due to rather wanting to watch them instead of dosing unnecessarily. I was going to use Jungle Fungus clear and some salt and call it a day but considered also adding maracyn or Maracyn 2 just to be on the safe side. Will this affect my fry and what’s your opinion on the meds? Pretty sure ammonia spike killed the first and weakened the second to get the fungal infection. current meds on hand Maracyn maracyn 2 kanaplex tetra lifegaurd para cleanse ich-x jungle fungus clear aquarium salt almond leaves
  13. No this was a brand new tank. Even before I set it up I did the alcohol spray down and vinegar and salt scrub.
  14. What does that do to feeder fish?
  15. one of them doesn’t look so good. It looks like saddle back so that’s why I dosed them. I think I’m going to let them go in a few weeks after I know they’re good and back in shape. Still aiming for mosquito fish and a crayfish for the bottom.
  16. So I went to a buddies pond with my son today and we caught a 6-7 small bluegills and croppies in our minnow trap. The original plan was to try for mosquito fish and have my son raise them but now he wants to try with bluegills. I have them in a solo 40 breeder doing the med trio. What’s your opinion on keeping 1 or 2 in a 40 breeder with a bristle nose pleco or a hand full of corries?
  17. For me it’s not the actual soil or anything coming through unless I pull something up to quick. It’s this grayish stuff that’s seeping through at the base of plants. The base layer is old flourish stratum soil so it’s the funk off that when you disturb the soil and it settles back down.
  18. I might have to try that. I have horses near me. I’d probably put a bit more then 2” of sand. I put that and stuffs already seeping through.
  19. Then mine are oddballs. They literally just sit there when I’m messing with the tank and I have to shoo them away when they’re on a plant I need to trim or the side of the tank I’m cleaning. I’ve literally had to poke one several times in the tail to get it to move.
  20. So I had 3 ottos for the last 7 months in my 29 gallon and a week or 2 ago I noticed I only had 2 left. I moved some plants and kept an eye out and couldn’t find it. They actually look a little different with one having wider eyes then the others and another having a nipped tail. I gave up and thought it was dead. Just now I was playing with my new tank and all 3 were on the front glass for a second then ran off. Am I gonna be expecting a batch of Otto fry or was it just being nocturnal? They usually are out on the spiralis or wendti if not on the glass so easy to find.
  21. I ended up putting a base of stratum that came from an old tank and was full of fish waste and then a 2” cap of HTh. Still tossed 4 osmo capsules in for a little extra.
  22. A blog I was listening to said that putting a base of old grape leaves under your substrate when you set a new tank up will help growth in crypts due to high macro nutrients when they break down. Has anyone done this and if so did you use anything besides grape leaves?
