  1. Did you squeeze it to see if it is firm? And have you tried flipping it?
  2. Hey everyone, Does anyone have experience with Psdeuomugil Luminatus and any tank mates they have kept with them? I am considering getting these but cannot seem to find any information about tankmates. These will be going in a summer tub and then moved back inside to a 40g breeder in the fall but while they are outside I'd like to have something in the tank moving around besides the plants. Tankmates I have considered are, neo. shrimp, cory's, bristlenose pleco's but wondered if anything else might fit that I havent thought of.
  3. No reason to be intimidated its just your experience with a particular aquarium or multiple aquariums.
  4. The watts per gallon is out dated because of the LED's. To measure the intensity of light you will need a PAR meter, which can measure the umols at substrate. I can not speak on the Hygger clip on but the finnex stingray 2 on a 10-gallon I believe is considered to be medium light. Irene put a video out about this and measured the par for it.
  5. Hello all, So this is something that has crossed my mind as I have started to plan out my low tech 40g breeder aquarium. I was wondering what low tech plants everyone has success with and has not had success with and what your water parameters are (pH, gH, kh, temp). If there is anything else you wish to provide that you do like water change percentage, dosing fertilizer's, root tabs, etc, please feel free to included it. I believe this would help others make a better educated buying decision in the future as it seems some plants grow better for others. I figured it would be nice to have an ongoing thread that people could go to and see what others had success with growing in there water parameters and get an idea compared to their own water. I will start. Plants I have succeeded with- Crypt Wendetti 'Green' Crypt Undulatus 'Red' Anubias Golden Nana Buce green wavy Buce Brownie ghost (not the 2011 variant) Subwassertang Giant Duckweed Duckweed Jungle Val Red Tiger Lotus Plants that have not done well- Hornwort Amazon Frogbit Dwarf Sagittaria Parameters pH - 8.0 gH - 22 kH - 14 Temperature - ~80F Dosing and WC No real schedule for either of these, WC usually every 2 weeks and dose easy green, easy iron when I remember, same with root tabs.
  6. I do not know if I would start with ocellatus, I think multifasciatus would be better.
  7. Well good to know I am not the only one. I feel that its been debunked at this point I've seen too many people with 0 dkh that haven't had a pH crash. Unfortunately, I already rematerialized my RO water to the previous parameters and would have to change 8 gallons if I wanted to half the dosing of K2CO3. My goal is to switch to clear tubing and lily pipes and add a inline diffuser, but that has not happened yet. I really need to order the pH monitor for the raspberry pi still too.
  8. I think it would depend on the shellie. Tank size would also have to be considered? What are you thinking?
  9. I just realized how much K I was actually dosing at 42ppm. Went back and looked at my initial post, and it didn't dawn on me at the time because I was dosing to 3dkh. I went back and added what I believe I am dosing with APT and that is 19ppm per week, so 61ppm of K a week, compared that just to the 9ppm of NO3. That ratio seems way off.
  10. Thanks! @gjcarew That does put into perspective the amount of K being dosed currently. It briefly crossed my mind that I could be dosing too much of something but was unsure. I plan to start making some of these changes with the water change and the rest with the following one. In regards to lowering the gh would you apply the same method as the kh or just reduce it on the next water change?
  11. @gjcarew I'll start by trimming the monte carlo back this weekend with the water change. I had been considering dropping the kh originally but was worried about having too little K. I didn't add up the total from my dosing of APT to see were I was at. If the plan is to lower/eliminate kh will I need to do this over time or should I just stop reminerializing with K2CO3?
  12. Well went to look at the tank and instantly noticed quite a bit of monte carlo has turned white/yellow, and saw some new algae growth on it. And I'm honestly at a loss on this one. Current water parameters: NH3: 0 NO2: 0 NO3: 5 PH: 6.5 DGH: 7 DKH: 4 PH when co2 off is 7.4 Dosing schedule and light schedule: APT Complete 5x/week at 2ml 4 hours at 60% and 2 hours at 80% It also feels like growth has severely slowed or even stopped. Any advice in how to move forward?
  13. 3 in use, unknown number in storage at parents house... 6g - Betta tank with 2 pygmy cories, and possibly 2 amano shrimp, with low tech plants. 10g - High Tech planted aquarium, that houses a pair of F. Gardneri Makurdi Killifish. 40g Breeder - Currently has a colony of N. Multifasciatus. (Hoping to sell these and redo the tank in the next few weeks) 40g outdoor tub - Just got this a few days ago, and still trying to decide what fish to put in it.
  14. So managed to tackle the algae problem and it has not came back yet. Changed some things up since the last update. Removed the H'ra and ripped out the ludwigia. I added 4 new plants, Hydrophila Siamensis 53B, Bacopa Myrophylloides, Hydrocotyle Sibthorpioides, and Pogostemon Helferi Downoi. I am particularly excited about the Pogostemon, I love the leaf shape on this plant. I am also trying to dial my co2 back in since I switched filters. I nearly gassed the fish out the first day when I switched it and I think I was a little heavy handed when turning it down. I increased the light from 40% to 55% for 4 hours and 80% for 2 hours. Now to be patient and see how the plants fill in.
  15. I will say it is quite expensive but sometimes books are invaluable and this is one of those books. For my birthday, I ordered a book called labyrinth fish world because I was struggling to find information on wild type bettas.
  16. I follow 2hr aquarist on Instagram, does he have a personal account also? And did not know Christel Kasselman was on Instagram, I am thinking about getting her updated book from her website.
  17. Dang! you really are the plant guy. It was sold as "blood red sg" so we will see. Was not easy nor hard to find really. You are assuming I can even grow them? You are alot more confident in my ability then I am. Let's say that does happen then I think I can make that happen, I need to get more diligent about getting cuttings out there, such a waste to dispose of them in my opinion.
  18. While I told myself no more updates until after the algae was cleared it. Here we are again, I added 2 new plants 10 minutes ago. You also may notice some changes, I removed the Mattenfilter in favor of a canister filter, allowing for more planting space. Next will be lily pipes and co2 atomizer, along with finishing the raspberry pi pH monitor. I wonder if the plant enthusiasts can figure the variants out? @gjcarew and @Mmiller2001
  19. I mean might as well, what's the worse that can happen
  20. Well you better get to practicing with it then. I don't know what phone you have but your pictures turn out great. I feel like my phone over saturates my shots.
  21. I am wondering what setting you are currently using on your Chihiro's? Also are you using a phone to capture pictures of the tank or something else?
