Awesome upload! I really love the baffle you made for your sponge filter. Have you made any posts about it before? I've been playing with my own builds and somehow never thought to  use the airline on my sponge as one of the possible anchors, mostly acrylic dowels or bamboo skewers attached to suction cups and then sealed airline tubing with jump rings.

I love wild bettas but have never been able to bite the bullet on one because importers scare me and I can't get them locally lol.

I've been keeping a journal about the Betta Imbellis on the Forum here...

  2. So sorry to hear.

    Some questions:

    - Can you run a full spectrum water test: pH, KH, GH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate?

    - Is this your usual maintenance routine?

    - What sort of filtration (if any) are you running?

    - Have you assessed factors such as temperature? Stray current? Source water contamination? Had pH crashed? Were there any worrying signs that led you to this maintenance?

    - Did any large stinky gas bubbles come up as you worked the substrate?

    - Can you try to post some before and after photos?

    - What was your stocking?

Again, so sorry about your losses. So frustrating. I guess I’d want to figure out causes of death before tearing apart the whole setup. I have heard certain stories about anaerobic bacteria gas releases that can harm fish. This thread from another forum hints at that. I am not sure how much stock I put in that.

IMG_20220404_152719045_1.jpg.38846a22cf52dcb75446353241594e99.jpgGreetings, I have a dumbo ear betta and noticed her fins looking more separated near the tips, she was completely white with a pink tint when we got her, so I am not sure if the white along the edges is the start of fin rot. She is super active and eats all the time however.

Likely. Long finned Bettas often struggle with fin rot. Keep water clean, don’t over feed, and consider medication if it gets noticeably worse.

You say female?? Are you sure?? Looks at first glance like a male to me.

Is there some sort of cheap video camera that could be setup that would be able to film the fishes during the night? I want to try to determine which fish is attacking what fish during the dead of night. When I shine a light in the tank i can never catch it.

Before that … what livestock is in the tank? What are the wounds like?

I looked at the Glowlight pygmy barb but am more attracted by emperor tetra… do you think it could work?

Absolutely! Emperor Tetras are gorgeous. I definitely think that could work. I always like to have at least 12 tetras if they's schooling fish.

What does that mean « You totally made me rabbit-hole on the zodiac just now… »? (Sorry, I am french).

To "rabbit-hole" just means I had to look that up . . . and then I got really fascinated with zodiac stuff (you mentioned "I'm a libra")

I am a Leo. My wife is a Scorpio. My kids are Gemini, Sagittarius, and Taurus. Which may be why I call my middle child a "communist" often 😂

as far as the hole in the head disease goes is there anything I can do for him or is it just stress related?

I suspect it is mostly brought on by stress. Do a regular schedule of water changes. Feed some quality foods. Should recover reasonably soon. If it looks like it’s getting worse and worse after a few weeks, you’ll need to consider medication. But my Acaras get pitting in the head and heal within a few days. Definitely stress related.

  7. The head marks look like hole-in-head disease. With larger cichlid’s, this comes and goes pretty frequently, especially if they’re under stress.

The body gash looks like an abrasion from Hardscape.

It is very possible your Pleco is getting naughty. For short term, I’d buy some light diffuser pieces, and cut / zip tie them into a tank divider. I get them at Lowes.

WalMart carries suction cup holders for using them as tank dividers if you want a very neat look. You may need to special order them online.

This will at least provide you with time to think through what to really do. If your Oscar heals in a few weeks and doesn’t show signs of more stress / attacks, I think you’re going to have to consider a long term plan to separate them.

  8. I’d probably try to just treat him right awhile, observe closely, and manage if it gets noticeably worse. He will need quality food to heal.

I live by a nature reserve for birds and keep an outdoor pond. We have eagles, hawks cranes, you name it its like Jurassic Park sometimes but not so good for outside ponds...a Crane took 2 of my beautiful butterfly blues one summer(3yrs ago I think) did all research and nothing worked to deter it from wanting to return for buffet but came across one thing that seemed ridiculous but it worked...a radio 😆 no big predator birds come anywhere near as long as I have human voice heard by the pond now. Food for thought that I wanted to share is all. ❤️

Back some 22 years ago, I rented an apartment in a small midwestern city downtown. From my porch, all day and night, I could hear screams of raptors.

At some point it dawned on me that this was ridiculous. There wouldn’t be a bunch of hawks, falcons, eagles, etc. downtown, and they certainly wouldn’t be screaming all night.

Out of sheer curiosity, I traced the sound to the parking lot of a high-end rare car dealer. They had speakers blaring raptor calls 24/7 to keep pigeons away so they wouldn’t poop on the expensive cars 🤣🤣🤣 🐦 🦅
