  1. Would you mind sharing the link to the one you chose?

I replaced all of my air in the fish room with a ~$30-40 linear air piston pump from Amazon.  I needed something in between 20 separate air pumps and the one that ACO sells, as I think it would just be too big.  Like @Odd Duck says, they're pretty quiet.  It's drastically quieter than the other setup that I had with separate pumps.  I'm running my copy of Dean's fry system and about 10 sponge filters.  And a handful of various air drops for other things.

  2. I keep tacking on Eheim 400s to feed air to an additional two large sponge filters as I add tanks to my fish room, and I honestly love how quiet they are. I think it's time to switch to something more serious that can service 15 or so sponge filters. Is there anything out there that doesn't sound like a jet engine?

  3. Running into a problem I'm sure others have seen. I've scoured the internet for a solve but not seeing anything.

I purchased a 40g TopFin tank from Petsmart. The dimensions as listed on the website are:

    Dimensions: 36.5 in L x 15.5 in W

Upon picking it up, I looked for a lid, and the asscoiate assured me this was the right lid. It even said "IDEAL FOR 40G AQUARIUMS" on the box. The 40g lid from Petsmart shows these dimensions:

    Product Dimensions: 35 in L x 16.5 W

Needless to say, it doesn't fit. Has anyone ever found a proper fitting lid for the TopFin 40g tank?

  4. Just learned that they do seasonally climb out of water and can fly. WHAT IN THE WORLD. Says typically in spring but when WA only has two seasons they have to make do.

It's definitely a predaceous diving  beetle. It would be interesting to key it out and find out exactly what kind. There are some resources onliine.  🤔

It’s over an inch long. 👀

thanks for the reply. Was glad that my intuition was right on bending the arms out, I did that. The rubber inside seems to be in very good condition, no tears or cracks.

both airlines are going to two sponge filters that have been recently cleaned, so no flow issues there. In fact, even with nothing on the end at all all, I can tell that the air pressure coming out is pretty weak.

  6. I recently added a CO2 setup to my 75g “moderately planted” tank. I’m not totally new to CO2 setups and have run one on a 20g for a year…

but I’m wondering what kind of bubble count I should be looking for on a larger tank? How many bubbles in 5 sec is a good starting point for a 75g tank?

  7. Thanks for the info. Super helpful. Also, I got the impression you felt bad about being honest with your experience, so I just say that I appreciate that honesty and also not trying to smear anyone along the way. I would expect Co Op to want that kind of feedback.

I initially bought the co op regulator.

Out of the box upon hookup to the tank it would constantly  vent co2 out of the regulator.  Constant leak out through the body hissing even when solenoid was not active.  Shut offthe tank valve and pressure guage would drop to zero in seconds.  It was not the gasket or too loosely attached, it was coming from inside the regulator.

    Candi sent another one promptly.

The replacement arrived and set up great.  2 weeks later it failed.  This time, when the solenoid would turn on, bubble started to flow out the bubble counters into the tank, but gradually secondary pressure would fail and bubbles would stop.  Ie main guage still showed pressure, but secondary guage would deplete to no pressure and flow would stop.  Shutting off the solenoid would allow pressure to return over several hours but  turning it back on would repeat.

Candi offered a replacement again, but I opted for a refund instead.  This was when the regulator first hit the market and I had sort of lost some confidence in it, not knowing what the overall experience was among people who bought them, and seeing that a regulator failure could wipe out all the fishies , I opted to try a different regulator instead….  I had great confidence in the Co ops policies and that they would stand by it, but didnt want the headaches…

I bought a replacement from CO2 Art and spent a significantly higher amount of money doing so at $269.00 for the regulator and 50.00 for each bubble counter.  On the plus side it offers a 10 year warranty.

had the 2nd Co Op regulator not stopped working for me I would still be using it today with no complaints or concerns.  I do however have experience with both of them.

I noticed out of the box the fit and finish of the CO2art regulator was more refined, but nothing I would have willingly spent the extra money for.

The biggest difference I noted is that the CO2art bubble counter needle valve is much easier to finely adjust the bubble count with.  It is much easier to adjust it from 2 bubble per second to three.. the Co op needle valve was more finicky in getting it dialed in.  Honestly I could have dealt with it as once you get it set right, it is not something you adjust very often…

Had the Co op regulator been on the market for a year or so and they had a better read on their warranty rate, I probably would have tried another replacement.  As it was, I bought mine the day it hit the website and they just didnt have a known track record yet.

I am not writing any of this to dissuade anyone from buying the co ops unit, but rather to try to explain what differences I experienced between the two regulators and explain why I have experience with both of them.

Given that the coop regulator has been on the market for about a year now, I likely would have been willing to try another replacement as they have a much better feel for what failure rate is.  Ie, any time you have a mass produced product there will be some failure rate.  I have no doubt that CO2art experiences some failure rate in their regulators as well…

Is the fit and finish difference between the two units or the finer needle adjustment worth the price difference?  Nope.  Not even close.  I would take the co op price hands down.

Is the 10 year warranty of the CO2Art regulator worth the price difference?  By golly that is a hard one to answer….  In my case, given that the co op unit has only been on the market a little under a year, personally, I would say it ever so slightly edges the CO2Art unit ahead…  depending on your price tolerance you could very easily feel differently…

I have no regrets over the CO2Art purchase, and it has worked flawlessly, but it is well over twice as expensive.  I may never know if the 10 year warranty makes up for the price difference.

  8. I’ve done some research on adding a quality C02 setup to my 75 planted tank. I currently run a frankenstein kit on my favorite 20g so I’m familiar with the concept and setup. I’ve seen some cheaper brands on Amazon I’m leery of (CLSCEA and ZRDR) since it will be in the house and CO2 leaks are not something to mess with.

Anyone have a full kit they’ve bought in the last year or two they love? Thanks in advance.

  9. @Ethan63

I have not found the temperature is crazy important as they have bred within the recommended range for king tiger care. They are in a planted and 75 gallon. It’s a community tank with a variety of tetras and other pleco species. Finding confirm females is really the only tricky part.

GH is around seven. TDS below 200. The cold water/rain simulation trick works well with most of my Pleco‘s.

  10. Then it’d be accurate to say the 4x Eheims are far more cost effective?

Current draw is power in watts divided by voltage.  So 50 watts/120 volts is about 0.4 amps.  The smaller pumps would obviously total about a third of that.

The equation is power = volts * current (P=VI)

  11. Anyone had positive/negative experiences with the Vivosun Multi-Head pumps? I'm looking at the 50W model that has 8 heads, all running to sponge filters. Is there a better brand or more effective/quieter model I should be looking at?

Website says: (Pressure>0.03Mpa; Output:70L/min; Max Flow: 1110 GPH)

    Thanks for any input!

I was going to try this but don't have a way to fire it 😞 Did you take it someplace that has a kiln?

  13. Wondering if anyone has had any luck successfully reinforcing industrial shelves. These ones are made of a plywood and have held up ok but I’ve been wanting to beef them up a bit.

These are all 20 longs and are a little under the total weight limits for the shelving. Wasn’t sure if replacing the shelf material completely or attaching something stiffer was a good option. Would like to hear what’s worked for any of you.

    Thanks.
