Cory actually answered a question like this on a livestream.

Basically, he recommended waiting about a month.

If Ich still persists, just redo the entire tank.

If you wait a month with no fish won’t the cycle crash?

  2. Had Ick show up out of nowhere in a grow out tank. I have removed all of the fish for quarantine, but there are still some plants, aquasoil, and wood in the tank. With normal doses of Ich X, How long until it is safe to assume the tank is disease free?

  3. @Cory
Safe to assume that if the male is on the eggs solo that they are fertilized?

Technically a few hours after being laid. Some argue the merits of being fanned by the parents, vs artifically rearing them. Dean will use a ziss egg tumblr or his fry try to replicate the fanning.

  4. L333 Breeding Update:

My King Tigers spawned for the first time 7 weeks ago. I estimate that I found the 5 eggs, which had become wigglers, about 2 weeks after spawning.

Once we discovered the eggs, I moved them to a breeder box in the same tank, and waited for them to grow a bit. Last week, moved all 5 to a grow-out tank (20g long).

Dad had Mom trapped the last couple of days in his cave, and as of this morning, I saw eggs again! My question is this: how soon can I move the eggs to the breeder box?

I’m asking because based on breeding other’s reports, with only 5 eggs being found, I think a few wiggled out of the cave last time and got picked off.

Picture was taken today of the first babies now 7 weeks old!

As I said, the issue is affecting multiple tanks that would have different answers to most of the questions below, but I will fill it out for the one tank I sent a picture of.

    Size of tank: 20 long

How long has the tank been set up: 6 months

What type of filtration (all): large sponge

What is your substrate: FLUVAL stratum

What type of light and how long is it on: FLUVAL 3.0 10 hours

Does any sunlight hit the tank, for how long, what time of day: no

What type of fertilizer(s) do you use and how often for each (include brands, please): One pump of easy green twice a week, one dose of flourish XL twice a week

    Your water parameters:

    Ammonia:      0

    Nitrite:   0

    Nitrate:      1-3

    pH:    7.2  GH:   6    KH: 2

Parameters of your tap water: 7.8

How long have you had the plants:

    Various ages

What types of plants do you have and how else does each type do:

All other plants do fine except for Java ferns, which develop some browning and spots as well

Basics of your maintenance routine (do you gravel vac and how often, frequency and amount of water changes, etc):

    Biweekly water change/gravel vac

Please post pics of the plants in question along with an ID if you have it.  Post whole tank pics, whole plant pics, and close of plant lesion/problem:

Anything else you can think of that might matter:

Anybody else have anything to add to this “Questionaire”?

  6. Five week update! All five are currently still with us. They love the almond leaf, but not sure what else of the cafeteria I'm trying they are preferring.  Still in the breeder box for now. Will move them to a grow out tank in the next couple of weeks.

  7. I have acquired 4 L333s (at least that’s what they were sold to me as) from different sellers over the last year.

Just found my first eggs/wigglers. I have them isolated in a breeder box in the same 75 gallon tank that they were hatched in. A few questions below:

    1. I have photos of all four attached, can anyone confirm my suspicions that at least one of them is not L333? I know Dad is definitely the one that is photographed from above.

    2. When and what should I feed the Fry? Do I wait for the yolk sac to disappear before putting it in?

    3. Any other tips from others who have successfully bred king tigers to improve survivability of these five little buddies?

So far, I’ve been told to add an almond leaf, and feed wafers once the yolk sacks are gone.

    Thank you everyone!

  8. I’ve got several plants that are struggling in different tanks right now.

    Temps: 78-82°

    pH: 7.2 gH: 4-8

weekly water changes. Dose ferts weekly, CoOp easy green and flourish excel.

Using FLUVAL 3.0 lights around 50% strength.

    TANK 1

broad leaf plants like Amazon sword and some Anubis’s are developing small holes and yellowing.

    TANK 2 & 3

got some plants for another hobbyist and almost all of it totally melted within 48 hours of being in my tank. His parameters were a lower pH but temps were comparable and he hasn’t had any issues gifting plants to others historically.

    any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  9. I first noticed this a couple weeks back, and thought that perhaps the one mystery snail I had in this 5 gallon tank came with babies on board. They never developed into baby snails, they are oval and very flat and possibly are destroying some of my Java plants. Anyone know what this is?

  10. @gardenmanthanks for responding. I’m fairly certain that my largest king tiger is female, despite the fact that she will often sit half in and half out of a cave with a large opening. I think it’s because I have other plecos and bottom feeders in the tank and that is why she caves up (claiming space). She doesn’t have the odontodes on the pecs. See below:
