Haha! This is Ben's dad!
I'll bet those guppies maybe came from our summer tubs. You get them at Pets Unlimited?
We'll have to have you over to watch some World Cup, check out the fish room, and take home whatever you like.
-- NERMS: serious GK here, this @Levi_Aquatics is!
Oh really, that’s crazy! It’s good to know another NERM!
Yep, that’s where I got them. They said they were locally bred in outdoor tubs, so I bet they were yours!
That sounds like a lot of fun! I’d definitely like to do that sometime! And thanks for the kind words!- 3

Oh really, I’m in Garrett. I play sports in Allegany though, so that’s where I got the fish.

Yesterday I swung by a lfs on my way home from basketball practice and picked up a group of 5 angelfish and a trio of beautiful guppies. I think @Fish Folk has a similar strain.
picture time!!
and a few of the things in my other aquariums…- 4

If you do use white mangroves as they are from freshwater higher altitudes
Thank you! I have been thinking about trying a few different species and seeing which one works best for me.

Mangroves work in freshwater too!
Hmmm I hadn't thought of those. Thanks for the idea!!

I would go with a group of corydoras of your choice, a bristlenose, and a school of guppies or other livebearers. For a show fish I think a dwarf gourami would be a nice addition.

What could be cool if you had some sort of way to transition the nature from the tanks to the tent (like a riparium, but with more of the tent) not sure how good that would turn out but it would be cool if you turned the tent into a little jungle where you could go and escape from the world for a half hour
I really want to do something like that! I am loking for good emergent plants to help cultivate that look. I have been thinking about pothos and bamboo. Any other ideas?

I have a spare comfy chair (like a half love seat) that I think would be great in my room but my parents won’t let me put it in my room, there excuse “but we use it” how else am I supposed to sit smoking a pipe while listening to jazz and watching my fish with ambient lighting, I thought we talked about this!
That’s a fair point lol I don’t know if I can help you there tho, sorry

Update-
I got a dehumidifier connected to a temperature controller that will turn it in when the temp in the room falls below 75F. In the summer I can also connect at fan or some other cooling device when the fish room gets too hot.
I also purchased some low budget lighting that actually looks pretty good in my opinion.
If anyone has ideas for other things I should get or improvements to make it would be much appreciated! Thanks

makes sense! Just always worried about that stuff. Probably shouldnt be.
It’s definitely a viable concern to have. I’ll be interested to see what others have to say!

I always just run mine through the washer. They never come in contact with the water actually inside the aquarium, so it doesn’t really cause a problem for me.

I have had pothos and I want to diversify a bit. Maybe some different leaf shapes?
-
I am loking for some plants to grow on top of my aquariums with their roots in the water. I'm not super into plants, so the easier the better!
-
I would definitely just move them now. Leaving them for an extended period of time and then moving them shortly after is likely to cause lots of stress which wouldn't be good for obvios reasons.

an interesting idea I was looking into was cashew leaves instead of almond leaves as cashews are native to south America, I ordered some from joshes frogs off of amazon but they canceled my order : (
I don't think I am going to be super picky about everything that touches the aquarium being south american, but I want the look to be that of a south american river. Thanks for bringing that up! I'm sorry your order was canceled though

I think snails would be an amzing way to demonstrate the same thing without having to put a fish in that situation

Good job catching that before you had any losses! I try to check the temp of the water going in the aquarium before adding it to avoid any issues.
