starsman20
Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 nitrate < 20I have 9 neon tetras. 3 of them have swollen bellies as of the last few days. Is this a disease or could they be pregnant? Other ones look ok. One of the bigger ones is in the back leftof the photo
KaitieG
My neons often look similar to that after they eat--have you noticed if they look that way all the time or mainly after feeding them? They could possibly be a little constipated, and I believe spirulina is a handy food to help make sure they're moving everything through their digestive tract. My son always is hoping they're "pregnant" since we have guppies who DO get big and pregnant...not sure if neons look like that with eggs or not. I know they're not livebearers like guppies.
Brandy
This is normal. Females are fatter than males, and tho they may be spawning, likely eggs and fry would be getting eaten. Also they eat like piglets--no off switch. If you keep putting in food they will act ravenous every time. It is just their normal state. So take care not to overfeed the tank, and if you have other fish gauge the amount of food by how long it takes them to stop being interested, not by the tetras.

Hobbit
I have the same problem. I think they’re just little chonkers.
G.A.
I was just wondering the same thing about my neon tetras, except mine also has what looks like white poop trailing behind. I had 2 of the 3 cories I added on Weds pass. I’m worried I introduced parasites to my healthy fish. Colu
Looking at the vid it could be parasites I would treat with paracleanse @G.A. Edited April 18, 2021 by Colu
Hobbit
@G.A. I agree with @Colu. Your tetra’s belly also looks more distended than mine, which are kind of fat all through their bodies. If you want to be safe, treat with Paracleanse.
G.A.
Kk. Ordered some paracleanse from Co-op. I also lost the last of the new cories since earlier post. 😿
