GoldenGardner
HI All, When I started my fish hobby, WAY BACK IN JANUARY, we got guppies. 2 survived my ineptitude, and I received 7 more from a neighbor that are "fancy guppies." They are all doing really well. The ones I got from my neighbor were young and they are turning wonderful colors. I am hoping to get pictures at some point, they are all blurry right now. I got several almost all black ones with a little larger tails, and they are just so cool. I was watching a video presentation that Cory did on Guppies and talking about how cool guppies are and the color combos and it's just so great. But I was wondering, how do I know who has what guppies? The Aquarium Coop doesn't have their inventory online so I can't see what they have unless I go there. How do I go about getting unusual colored guppies? Or planning? (Not looking to get any right now, I have 22 fry growing but looking for the future.)
Daniel
Aquabid is an excellent place to find different and unusual strains of guppies.

Kirsten
Guppies are often sold as "assorted" because they could be a mix of several varieties, and because females often have some colors and patterns the males do, but not all, so it can be a bit of a mystery what their babies will turn out like unless you've raised them from known parents. So I say enjoy your mystery guppies for now, but you can start tunneling deeper into different known colors and patterns with a simple google search for fancy guppies. Look on aquabid, craigslist, ebay, online fish stores and see what's out there! I bet you'll find more than a few that you'll want to add to your collection!
GoldenGardner
Yeah, I don't really have room to breed any for specific colors so our mystery guppies are pretty great. I did send a link to our neighbor who does have room to breed and planted the seed. I love the idea of them mixing together to get new color combos. Brandy
ebay is also a great place to look at lots of fun pics. But if you are breeding mutts, I would just treat them like an impulse buy. pick them up when you see an amazing one. Kinda the best sort of fun. gardenman
Just be forewarned, the prices of good privately bred guppies can be a bit of a shock if you're used to local fish store prices. Twenty or more dollars per fish aren't uncommon.q
Eric R
Local aquarium club auctions can be a good way to get fancy guppies for affordable prices. Some clubs even specialize in guppies.
