Chandra
I have few mystery snails in my tanks. How do you guys keep up with Calcium? I read on few sites that offer snello kits and calcium carbonate powders but I was looking for more of measurable dosages if any one is doing. TheDukeAnumber1
Are you shooting for calcium in the water or in food? Either way Crab Cuisine and or wonder shells may help. https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/fish-food/products/hikari-crab-cuisine https://www.aquariumcoop.com/products/wonder-shell
Kat_Rigel
I make snello using baby food and crushed tums. Before that I would place the entire tums tablet in there and they'd gobble it up, about 3 tablets for 4-6 adults and 40 pea sized babies. Others have recommended liquid calcium, which can be found in the marine section, but I haven't used it.

I like that but I was hesitant because of the inactive ingredients.
gcalberto
I give my snails and shrimp a lot of kale, which supposedly has a lot of calcium. My water is soft, but I've never had shell malformation or molt issues.

I have specifically used the fruit flavor, and the generic brand too. I definitely needed it because their shells were very, VERY weak for a while there. The tums brought em back to health. I haven't seen any ill effects and they have been breeding more for me.
Daniel
I think @TheDukeAnumber1 had it right with suggesting Wonder Shells. At $3.99 it is very inexpensive and has the advantage of a long track record of being safe to use in your aquarium. And yet another @TheDukeAnumber1 suggestion related to snail shells was to use argonite as a substrate. What do you think of using the assorted berry tums in making snello? Cause I have an entire thing of these tums and if I don't have to buy calcium for my snello for awhile, that'd be cool. I think I recall Cory saying they liked the berry flavor in fact, but I can't guarantee that memory is correct... I might have mixed the info and source. Haha But I would feel ok using the berry. Speakeasy
I don't know about tums, but you can mix calcium supplements ment for reptiles (get it without vitamin D3) in with some repashy or other gel food and keep a zoo med banquet block in the tank. That what I used to do when growing out mystery snails. Which is good for growing new shell...wondershell and crushed coral for to help them keep the shell they already have Edited September 4, 2020 by Speakeasy
