Squeegee79
Depends on how many times per hour the tank water gets pushed through it, but shouldn't take too long. Have you determined the cause of the algae? With green water I find fixing the cause is usually more beneficial than treating the symptoms. JettsPapa
I think I've had green water in every tank I've started under 20 gallons. I get it under control by adding plants, even if it's just fresh cuttings bundled together with a plant weight so they can be removed later, and reducing light from my usual 12 hours per day to 6 - 8. It won't be quick, but it will go away.

Would it be possible for you to post photos?
Squeegee79
So, the best way to treat the symptom...which is the green water, is to use an old school magnum 350 with a diatom filter. Not sure if you can even buy those anymore though.
