Should I Replace Evaporated Water with Distilled Water or Treated Tap Water

I have a planted, Fluval Spec V. Because the lid is open in the middle (which I like), I'm losing quite a bit of water to evaporation. Should I replace that with distilled water or treated tap water. My plants are floaters (and I thin some out about every three days or so). Do I need to use distilled because only pure water evaporates or treated tap water because the plants are sucking up minerals?

I usually dont topp of my aquariums but when I do I use treated tap water and never had a problem with it.

Depends on how often and much you change water. If you almost never change water, top up with distilled. If you do 50% weekly changes etc, top up with whatever is easiest

Depends... How soft/hard is your water and do you want it to get harder? How much water are you replacing and how often? How often are you doing water changes and how often?

ChefConfit, I can measure how much water I replace the next time I add water. I would guess about 1-2% of what the tank holds.The water is hard, I don't want it getting harder. It's heavily planted with floaters, a few of which I pull out every 2-3 days. I'm hoping for few water changes.
