Danny LeVeck
My tap water has ammonia in it around 2. In doing water changes will the bacteria in the established tank take care of that, should I treat the new water first, or other advise?
lefty o
you should definately treat the water. either before hand, or pour in a dechlorinator while doing the water change.
Ken Burke
I’m assuming you mean 2ppm. That is very high, esp if you are doing large water changes. I think fritz dechlorinater will make it safe until the bacteria can manage the ammonia.

lefty o
i dont use prime myself, but i believe it is a dechlorinator, and thus should do the job.
