Leo2o915
So what’s the best way to pull out a sponge filter in a shrimp take without taking any with you when you clean it ?
Fish Room Fever
I generally find that running my hand around the filter to scare the shrimp off works. Then just use the fish bag method Cory talks about. Someone may have a better answer but that's what works for me. You could also dip the sponge in a container of tank water after removal if you are worried that shrimlets are still in there. Then proceed to your normal cleaning routine. I hope that helps.
Matt Pike
Mine always jump off when I am pulling it out of the water. I dont bag my shrimp filter in the water I take them out and into a bucket. They always seem to jump off.

Put it in a ziplock bag first right ?
Streetwise
For my pico tanks, I frequently have to remove duckweed, which is a biofilm buffet for shrimp and snails. Combs and hair picks are great for duckweed removal, with a bit of a shake to try to get bladder snails and shrimp fry to let go. I still put anything I pull into a clear bucket to check for fry. Wow, that comb trick sounds awesome! I always struggle getting the last bit of duckweed out of the tank

If you're going to use the bag trick to keep funk water from clouding the tank then I would do it after chasing the shrimp off and before pulling it out of the tank.
