Whitecloud09
So I ordered Amazon sword. Anubias hastifolia, a new plant on ACs page, and micro sword. Oh yeah and Val. And planting tweezers and more root tabs. Lots of ands lol.So Q @Tony s, do I add root tabs and fertilizer BEFORE ADDING PLANTS. Or add after? Tony s
Add root tabs just after planting. Using the tweezers. Much easier that way. You don’t even disturb the new plants

Whitecloud09
Ok, sand coming today, will add using the water bottle method. And adding lots more. It's a 10-pound bag, so should make the sand thicker for plant On 6/24/2024 at 5:15 PM, Tony s said: Right thx
Whitecloud09
The water bottle method……..didn’t work lol. Because I made a mistake. Cleaned water before adding to bottle and then when I used the funnel, it got really clogged. And I didn’t get anything in there. So I just got a plastic bowl (if you don’t want cloudy water do not attempt 🙃) and put clean sand in, put bowl in very very slowly. But when I poured even as slow as I did, there was some serious cloudiness 😐. It got down there and it worked but the cloudiness, oh yeah it was cloudy. Ok I need to stop using the word cloudy 🤣. Anyway the water is u know cloudy but it worked! Here is a picture. And comparison of when the tank was setup, vs now. before adding more sand. And after. Whitecloud09
Plants came! Here is pictures! I put rot tabs in, about 5 across the tank, around the plants. But sadly overnight, the root tabs came out (only 2) and are scattered around. Hopefully there will be no spikes in water quality numbers right? @Tony s, the ammonia nitrite and ph are the same. I feel like it is just sitting the same and will forever. Should I add more bacteria? Ok actually I should be patient. Patience for me…..is tough lol. But I guess that is apart of cycling. Nvr mind lol 1

Whitecloud09
Sand is lighter too, so yeah, kinda annoying for sure. On 6/27/2024 at 1:12 PM, Tony s said: Root tab floats are annoying. Whitecloud09
My nitrite is starting to show. Barely at less than .25 ppm. Ammonia same. Ph same. Progresss!!!!!!!
Whitecloud09
Last nitrite was .50 ppm. Let’s go! Progress, patience and more patience is getting me through this cycle lol. Just like last time 😂 ammonia same. Ph same.
Whitecloud09
Nitrite is between 2 to 5 ppm. Yeah, the API test kit....it is hard to tell the difference from both of those numbers. I am really leaning towards these fish down below. I am not saying the cycle is almost over, but i am taking this time to do the planning during the cycle. Panda corys. Harqulin rasboras or guppies. A few honey gouramis. Shrimp and snails. To much? Have any ideas? On stocking and whatnot. Should i start testing for nitrates at all @Tony s? thx guys. Tony s
Well, you’ve been wanting the pandas for a while… honey gourami trio would be good. And harlequins are very cool. Common but underrated. Guppies can be a bit nippy so I might not do those. I might stop there and get used to them before adding anything else. But, it sounds good. Cool, thanks for more options, the schooling fish is the only thing idk about yet, rasboras, tetras… we’ll see! The honeys and pandas are pretty much final, especially the pandas, have been wanting those for a long time lol. Not putting them in my 10g, would be a cram, with all the decor lol. Tony s
How about cherry barbs for your schooling fish. lots of activity and very colorful
Beardedbillygoat1975
You know you want to join the Panda Cory Appreciation Society?! I think your stocking plan will be great. Rasboras like the pork chop or harlequin are probably better schoolers than cherry barbs which are schoalers. Great build thread and enjoy the ride! Before you know it you’ll have fish in and you’ll be bored and wanting another tank! Have fun!

Tony s
Okay, want to blow your mind? There is no such thing as a panda cory anymore. About 80% of all corys have been renamed. the panda cory is now the panda hoplisoma. pygmies are now pygmy gastroderms. also have various brochis, osteogasters, aspidoras, schleromystax. Some do stay corydoras, but only about 20% of what we use to call corys
PonyPlantedTanks
That’s crazy! Is that just from all the inbreeding in the hobby or are wild caught considered non-true pygmies or pandas too?

So they broke up the clades into different generic names. Gives them a tighter fit as to where they genetically belong. but confusing as heck to the normal person. I first noticed this when browsing imperial Tropicals website. Took me a moment to figure it out 😅 https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=e968e0ca958cd3daJmltdHM9MTcxOTk2NDgwMCZpZ3VpZD0wZTU0NmFiNi1jMWZhLTY4MDYtMWIzMi03OTAyYzAyOTY5YzQmaW5zaWQ9NTI4MA&ptn=3&ver=2&hsh=3&fclid=0e546ab6-c1fa-6806-1b32-7902c02969c4&psq=coryforas+different+genera&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cucHJhY3RpY2FsZmlzaGtlZXBpbmcuY28udWsvZmlzaGtlZXBpbmctbmV3cy9jb3J5ZG9yYWRpbmFlLXJldmlzaW9uLWNoYW5nZXMtbmFtZXMtZm9yLWh1bmRyZWRzLW9mLXNwZWNpZXMv&ntb=1 1
