Yoshi
You think maybe some additional root tabs might help the sword?

PonyPlantedTanks
@Whitecloud09 maybe you should try some more floating plants to help give a little shade for the ones who don’t want a ton of light. And it might help keep the algae off some plant leaves too! in my 10g I have Pennywort, guppy grass and Pearlweed floating up top which all do a really good job shading out my Anubias (which used to be covered in GSA).

Whitecloud09
My tank is pretty much winning the algae battle, except for my anubias algae war and the rock in the middle has a weird algae. @Mmiller2001 the purple algae, what is that in the pic below? thanks! My minnows love their diet including, freeze dried cubed brine shrimp, pellets, flakes and frozen bloodworms. With bug bites too. things going well, easy to maintain tank, I love it. 1

Whitecloud09
The water sprite has grown crazy big. Will add some brazilian pennywort soon like @EricksonAquatics has mentioned!
Whitecloud09
The tank after a 25% wc. Added some Val from other tank, not growing great but I added some more ferts today so maybe that might give a lil boost. The fish are very healthy. Hurricane hit last night, no power, thankfully for only one hour. Man, a hurricane in north ga, wow, crazy. But anyway, pics!! Ps: Sorry for no recent update 🙂 been busy. Back to it more now! 2
Whitecloud09
So question. My bag of crushed coral is kinda nasty. Like dirty, brown stuff on it. I need to replace it. I have already replaced the filter cartridge, in the hob. It was falling apart. But don't you replcae the crushed coral after a while. It has been in there for 3 or 4 months, probably longer. I am not sure if you are supposed to? Could anyone help? I have a glass bowl of some Crushed coral that does not have a lid, is it any good to use? I have had that since adding the crushed coral a while back. Any responses are greatly appreciated! I will get some pics of the tank in a bit. I did a 50% wc yesterday. It looks much better. Lynaea
The brown stuff is likely just detritus, you could try rinsing it out, or the unused stuff you have should be fine too. Try putting a piece of foam or filter floss in the HOB before the coral to catch more of the detritus even if only a smaller piece will fit over to the side. You may have to replace it fairly often but it will help keep the gunk out of your crushed coral.
Whitecloud09
The tank as of now. My snail is super active, and I snapped a pic of him! I need to do something different with the background as the posterboard is not the best look. Over time, the water that occasionally spills goes in between it and the glass.... @Tony s I saw before you talked about how you could use acrylic paint. For an established tank? Where would be the best place to buy that? My minnows do not need an update, they are practically rocks, and they love some food lol. Everytime I walk past the tank they swim to the very top to the middle, where I feed them daily 😁. Pic time! I plan to redo so to speak this tank in maybe late Dec or early Jan. A heavily planted no fake decor tank! Stay tuned, who knows I might do it sooner!!!! 1

Where would be the best place to buy that Craft stores. hobby lobby, Joann's, Michaels. Then go to a home store and get a smooth nap paint roller and a small paint pan. Tape off what you don't want covered. It's going to take 3-4 coats. Glass doesn't paint well and the paint is very soft. You can see pinholes if you have a strong light. just make sure nothing splashes in the tank, and you should be good
Whitecloud09
Decision pretty much made. Thanks @Mmiller2001 for suggesting pool filter sand. I am planning on starting that not next week but THE next week. I will be gone next week. I had said that I was going on a trip out west (I think I said that in this topic?...😉) for a week and a half. But things changed and I had to cancel my flight wed. So I rescheduled to go to another state. For 4 days. So kinda still busy lol. Enough talk about that and let's talk what I am planning. Planning on painting the back of the tank with acrylic paint (black) and taking out both caves and taking anubias out of the easy planter and gluing it to a piece of driftwood or rock that I plan to add. So yeah, complete rescape. Will add a back wall of Val. To make a jungle appearance. And add some crypts and some swords maybe (possibly....). So, that is the plan. By the end of year, it should come to pass. pool filter sand and paint, and new decor and plants. THE PLAN. Thanks for reading, short update of the future of the tank. :D. -Whitecloud

One I will warm you about is the lucens. Mine came emerged and looking big and beautiful. Once it converts, it becomes tiny. It’s also a suuuuuper slow grower. My Wendtii grew twice as fast (hence why it’s my favorite crypt). I’ve heard the same about parva - tiny tiny and takes forever to spread. If that’s what you want then totally try it. Bad picture of an algae covered lucens and gravel in need of a vac😂but you get the idea.

Learn the numbers. It’s easier to help when you report what’s actually going in and out. Why add iron when you don’t already know how much iron is being dosed? That said, .45ppm iron is around the sweet spot.
