I think buy from a big box pet store is hit or miss for the longevity of the fish. I would think it is nothing you did but rather the care that was administered at the pet store. Unfortunately there was probably nothing you could do. May the minnows rest in peace.

Yes sadly that is prob the case.

Petsmart  will probably allow you to choose the fish that you want, especially with unique fish, like assorted, like fancy guppies. I don't know about yours, but my PetSmart always puts the specimen in a catch cup for you to examine for health, before putting them in the bags.

No not mine, I can’t tell them which ones either, becasue there is so many minnows and they just pick random ones 😔

I have bad news, my 2 WCMMs, I bought from petsmart died right when I got home, but I brought them right home! Idk what happened, but they both died, RIP. One of them was very discolored, and he died as soon as I walked through my door. 😔. Can anyone help me figure why and how this happened if possible,  I feel so bad…..

Unfortunately, this is normal. When I bought my pygmy cories, two had dropsy and one died from ammonia poisoning. I got six neon tetras - two died within a day. It's sadly normal, because the tanks at big box pet stores are usually packed full of ammonia. Then moving them from a cup and then into a bag and then a car and then a new tank - very stressful. This whole situation is super stressful and just sucky for the fish, sadly... and it can cause them to die.

It isn't your fault. I would actually ask petsmart for a refund or replacement - idk what petsmarts policy is but i think they might let you do that within seven days of purchase. I think they want you to bring the fish bodies though ... (yuck. disrespectful imo). This wasn't your fault at all. Don't feel bad!

Update: my minnows again are still thriving! My snail is happy with all the algae too! Here are just some good ole pics of the tank. Have not posted pictures in a while. My red flame sword is kinda struggling. But idk we’ll see, I put root tabs in there every month and ferts every weekend. Weird.

I have blue green algae too… ugh. It’s the worst. But I’m going to pick up some Fritz Slime Out because I’m done trying to remove it by hand! I was out of town for a week and came back to a cyano jungle😭

Oh noooo! Yes I hate it, by hand, with my minnows like, “what are you doing!” And swishing all the water around freaking out my snail, i my get some fritz slime out too. I e heard that it helps soooo much.

Tank after water change. Pic below. Let me tell you, this Georgia summer heat, is ruff. It hit 103 degrees earlier today. My water was BARELY cool enough for a water change. It was 73 degrees, that is how low it gets, and that is not cooled at ALL. I was planning on a change yesterday, but the water was to warm 😩. Crazy. Summer is definitely here, but I clean all the algae off of front piece of glass. And cleaned my gravel a bit. Took out some hair  algae, and changed 25% of the water. Oh yeah and I am going to order more gravel to cover the diatom and algae ugly looking gravel lol.

July update! Tank thriving, feeding my minnows a mixture of pellets and flakes once a day. Ammonia is barely present at less than .25 ppm, so I am keeping a eye on that. I also give them some BBS cubes every once and a while. The tank looks type same as above, but I am still kinda struggling with my plants 😕. I am now going to do one pump twice a week. Sound good? @Mmiller2001, @Tony s, anyone?

Thanks. So I am then thinking, Sunday Wednesday and Friday? Sound good @Mmiller2001? Thank you!

Isnt that how it works? 3 SEPARATE pumps? On different days.

I am thinking of taking some things out. The bridge maybe, because the simplicity of a aquarium can actually be what makes it special. Don’t know what I am talking about, here is the oldest picture I have of when the tank was planted, I have older ones, but without plants. I feel that my tank is kinda stuffy and not a lot of room for my WCMMs. They have plenty of room, don’t get me wrong, but I like simplicity a lot, and am thinking of taking some stuff out.

Old pic of tank, from February 29 of this year.

No algae in that picture lol. Different now 😜

Ps: changed my logo, to one of my minnows I actually own lol.

@Mmiller2001, what is wrong with my anubias do you think? It is looking ruff, covered in algae even after I clean it every wc. Thoughts?

image.jpg

And when I try to clean it, some of the algae will not even come off! Idk what is wrong. What kind of algae do you think as well?

Looks like the tank needs to be cleaned up a bit and might need some better flow throughout the tank. Looks like a bit of GSA too, might need more fertilizer.

Yeah I am planning on a wc tomorrow, i guess I will take it out and clean it, and the easy planter as well. Thanks

This is just pure luck but I put 80 degree water in jugs for a wc last night, put it in front of a fan, and magically is 72 degrees this morning. Perfect degrees. Temp of my tank! Wc early this morning, things are going well. Minnows and snails are doing well.

Definitely GSA, raise PO4 dosing .

How should I get phosphate in my tank? I hear that some fish food (certain kinds) have some in it. Does ACs all in one fertilizer have it? I did 3 pumps this morning after wc btw @Mmiller2001.
