TheDukeAnumber1
Yup that's definitely wood... If you want to be super safe you can boil it for a 10 or so minutes and/or soak it for a few days/weeks or so until it doesn't leech any more tannins (brown stuff) into the water. Where did you find it? That may help you determine what tree it came from and what kind of wood it is. Streetwise
It looks deciduous, not coniferous.
Administrators Cory Posted November 6, 2020 Administrators Share Posted November 6, 2020 I doubt many people can identify the wood type from the picture. Most foraged wood like that becomes a try at your own risk.

Tanked
Hi Austen, Your specimen does not look very flight worthy. I would think the wood came from the tree closest to where you found it. If you or your neighbors don't have "firs" or "evergreen" trees or trees with "needles" or cones nearby, it not likely to be pine.
Dandy Pearl
As others have mentioned, unless you are in love with it, try it at your own risk AFTER boiling. The best course of action, although more expensive, is to use wood from a know source like your LFS. Good luck with your tank.
