Rebecca Kim
Hello, I am thinking of adding a couple of Rams ro my community tank. Temp 82 and relatively brackish water. I love the look of both GBR's & Bolivian. I want something peaceful and hardy. Not looking into breeding them. And are they fin nippers? Which do you prefer and why? Thank you. Pekitivey
I prefer the German Blue just from an asthetic point of view. Not sure how well they would adapt to brackish water tho. Would love to know how it goes and what you choose!

ange
Neither species is meant to live in brackish conditions long term, though I quarantined my Bolivians at 1TBS/3gallons for 6 weeks with zero adverse effects. If you're picking a ram no matter what the brackishness is, I would do Bolivian rams. GBR are more prone to disease in tanks under 84F and fail to really thrive. Both species are peaceful unless they're trying to breed or you're unlucky and have a same sex pair that don't get along. Rebecca Kim
Thank you ange & TH Fishkeeping. I did read this on them "Beyond simply being an attractive fish species, Bolivian Rams are very tolerant of a variety of water conditions including pH, temperature and water hardness". ange
I've found that to be true, however long-term it's not going to be beneficial to keep them in a brackish environment. It's a similar experience to trying to keep livebearers in very soft water.
