  1. @xXInkedPhoenixXgood points! I will put my $ and energy into decorating! great pic. Thank you!
  2. @xXInkedPhoenixXis the gravel ok for the Corys “noses”? Not too hard? honestly, most of the reason to change was that I thought the color was blah. Maybe i add some color gravel? Thoughts? Im not very good with color design. @Colucan i add different Cory’s? Like panda or another?
  3. I just inherited a 20 gallon long fish tank from a friend (see pic). It has 6 neon tetra, 6 black tetra, 1 scarlet rasbora (he thinks accidentally included with the black tetra), 2 corys. think i can add any more fish? I also realize i need to add plants etc for shelter. I was thinking about switching out the gravel for eco complete or fluorite.
  4. Do we think it could be a gram negative not covered by the maracyn? Maybe kanaplex needed for broader gram negative coverage?

    Sick Betta

I also had planted tank and thought the same basically I removed water. Then replaced the water with salt water that I had made to equal 1 tbsp to 1 gallon I mixed it in the bucket that I put clean water in before I put into tank i did it little by little. Like replace 3-4 gallons one day. So then it was overall 1 tbsp: ~2.5 gallons then the next time I changed water (aligned with when medication treatment said I could change) did the same thing w salt. my plants actually did fine. Let me know if you need more explanation.
  6. Yes you can combine salt and meds. In fact I think it can be synergistic because it can affect the salt channels for ion channels that help bacteria survive.

    Sick Betta

I had an episode of what I thought was gill flukes in betta. Same thing. Heavy breathing. Hiding at bottom and loss of appetite so I also had to tweezer feed. I have had mine be sensitive to nitrate spikes. But more in the 40s. general cure seemed to work. Admittedly I went full board and did kanaplex and Ich X as well as salt. i find 1 tbsp per gallon of salt works wonders alongside meds.
  8. @Katherinei think you are right. The probe is broken. I used an instant thermometer and it says 80F. And the stick on thermometer also says 80. thanks!
  9. Hi fellow Nerms, i have had trouble getting the new betta tank up to 80%. I used to be able to heat a planted tank of this size with only 1 of these heaters (see pic) and now i cant get it past 72.8F with two! What do you think is the problem? Flow? In the planted tank I had two sponge filters.
  10. Thanks friends!!!! I followed the wisdom and it all looks great. I also realized that I have a blue light for this light so the gravel my son picked glows! Bonus! See pic
  11. I have had luck with aquarium salt (looks like you are in a planted tank so you might consider moving to a QT). AC has a good blog on dosing. I have also used kanaplex in the water if i think it is fin rot.
  12. Yes - 1 betta. Should i take him out for the process?
  13. i am going to turn my 10g QT tank into my betta’s new tank. Any suggestions on how to go about adding gravel?
  14. @xXInkedPhoenixXand other nerms, Where do I put the coral bag? I have two sponge filters no HOB. can I just put it on the gravel?
  15. I have to rehouse a betta. Any ideas for what to put in a 10g planted tank?

    Med suggestions?

thanks @Colu! what do you think is going on? here is some background from previous post:

    Med suggestions?

I started general cure (concern for hill flukes) and ich x and kanaplex (fin rot) salt concentration about 1.5 tbsp to 1 gallon water temp 78-80 stress guard added betta seems lethargic but eating this morning and swimming around. A little flashing/zooming. looking rough (see pic). Erosion on body near dorsal fin. Hold on long fin and tagged under fins. First time I have gotten a good look bc he has been hiding in cave. thoughts?
  19. That gunk was before I put the general cure in. I had put kanaplex in the day before but I have done that in the past and not seen that.
  20. I started ich X yeast night and general cure just now. He finally came out this morning during a water change (before I added general cure) and he ate some food. there was a lot of white floating gunk in the water and the filter had a white coating all over it. See pic. Is this slime coat?
  21. I increased the flow of the sponge filter. I can add another air stone. I am wondering if this could be gill flukes?
  22. Nerms- I moved by betta to a QT tank Tuesday because I was having problems with high nitrites and an ammonia bump (0.5). I noticed some blackening of his dorsal fin so decided to move him early. He had a bad case of fin rot back in December so I decided to jump on it this time. Since I moved him he has been hiding at the bottom of the tank in the past 3 days and not eating. His last meal was a big bloodworm meal which may have been a source of the problem. He hasn’t been eating and when he does come out he zooms around and then goes back. Now he looks like he is breathing heavily. The gills look like they are moving at a rate of 75-85 per minute (estimate). I don’t see any spots but it’s hard to see him bc he is hiding in a cave. I started kanaplex this afternoon. salt is at about 1 tbsp to 2 gallon. Temp 80.5. Amm 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 0 there is an AC sponge filter in the water. Thoughts?
  23. Hi friends. I moved my betta to a QT because his tank got out of whack. he has been hiding inside a cave and rarely coming out over past 2 days. Today he came out and ate for the first time. I also noted a big poo in the tank (bare bottom). a few days ago I might have been over generous with the micro blood worms. do you think this is likely swim bladder given the poo and slight improvement today? Other things I should worry about or watch for? Or do? thanks
  24. Friends - I moved Cutie (my betta) and now he is hanging out on the bottom of the tank. the first day or two he was hiding behind these rocks at the back of the tank. now he is hiding inside a hut and won't come out for feeding. I removed the hut to try to get him to see I was feeding him and he darted all around the tank, so I put it back. he does not come out when I open the top for food. this is very unlike him. thoughts? should I start kanaplex? I put about 3 tbsp of salt for the 10 gallon tank. his dorsal fin is a black at the edges. I cant see much else bc he won't come out.
