  1. Something that kills snails, hurts fish and plants, all while your other tanks are ok...

I would start trouble shooting by identifying what is different in this thank compared to your tanks that dont have this issue. My first guess would be that something toxic is leeching out of the substrate, but it would be good to know what the other setups are too.

  2. My relationship with mac n cheese is one of brutal.. brutal efficiency. In my college days I developed a recipe and strategy to maximize the dollar and minimize time needed for making it.

Recipe: 2 boxes kraft mac n cheese & 1 block of spam , tobasco (optional)

Follow the steps for maximum time savings.

    1) Frist get fully hot water from the tap and fill a pot with an amount of water that looks about right.

    2) Place the pot on a burner on high and dump in the noodles.

    3) While that is heating up open up the spam, cube it, and throw it in the pot.

    4) Next measure out the butter and milk being aware to stir the pot if needed.

    5) Once the noodles are tender turn off the burner and turn on the sink faucet to cold. Then using a large slotted spoon to hold back the noodles pour out as much of the hot water as you reasonably can into the drain and shut off the faucet. Do not worry if it appears too much water is left behind, this will evaporate off in the next steps.

    6) Place the pot back onto the originaly used but turned off burner, then push the butter to the bottom of the noodles and stir until melted.

    7) Once the butter is near fully melted pour in the milk, give the pot a quick stir and then add the cheese powder and give the final stir.

😎 enjoy your most classy meal and leftovers, add tabasco to taste!

  3. Just a follow up fyi. I will create an "sign up" thread for the taco eating contest a week before contest start for entry, to lay our rules, and for pre game discussion. Then I will post the official contest thread for submitting entries at the beginning of NERM week.

Someone posted how they macgyvered a solar panel to a USB pump, but the more I ponder on that I'm not sure I can do it since I'm planning on my tubs getting only morning sun.

I posted about that and there are other with good builds too. Tubs can do very well with no air at all so I wouldn't be concerned with intermittent air flow. And when heat and low oxygen will be at its worse is when the sun is on the tub but the air stone will be running to combat that.

I live in IL so not nearly as hot, but my solar setup so far that only runs while the sun is shining has been working out well, even with days in the mid 80's with direct sun most of the day.

  5. I can't tell what they are, a more detailed photo may help. But don't say yipes yet, many creatures like this are harmless and can even be beneficial, and they may just die out on their own with no action needed.

Hello! So I ended up coming across a group of 24 Least Killifish (HETERANDRIA FORMOSA) for sale at a really good price, and was wondering if this sounds too much for a 12g Patio Tub? It has no filter, just heavily planted with different floaters and bog plants. If it does, I have my main 37g Tub which I was going and still plan to use for Ricefish but since those are coming in a little later in the Summer, would it be a better idea to throw the least killis in there for now?

A heavily planted 12g with floaters will be plenty for 24 least killifish. The population will explode quickly if you feed well but your floaters will help filter and they are a very hardy fish.

I have a bunch in a 10g only running plants and air stones.

  7. Ebay is another place to look for the usb air pumps, hopefully you can get lucky and find one locally.

Mentioned above I took an old 6 volt solar panel from a solar light and spliced the wires from the solar panel directly into the USB air pump wires. It has been running well for a couple weeks now. I have run just a single airstone in my 100gal ponds before but Cory kept saying his is best pond is one with no power at all. So I'm not worried at all about no filter and no air running when there isn't sun. I mostly just want the air running during those hot direct sun days to keep the oxygen high in the worst heat.
