  1. That's just such a shame after you went through all that cost and effort. It might be worth balancing the loss you'll take selling the aquarium against the cost of having an engineer take a look at the building and see if they can give you an ok or not.

Either way GL getting your friends to help you haul another tank up to your apartment 🙂

So after alot of conversations and deliberations, it is with sadness ive decided to sell the tank as its just not worth the risk at the end of it all, therefor put it up for sale and ill be looking to get something lighter, perhaps 300L or something. Truely heartbroken by this because it wouldve been an awesome tank to use. Keep you all posted, thanks for all your help and input over the last few days.

Did you get a hold of the blueprints from your neighbor?

  3. On 7-14 we all go to our favorite LFS wearing murphy hats and say happy Nerm day at checkout. In the afternoon we have a remote-live taco eating contest, most tacos eaten in 10min, winner gets bragging rights. Have a year highlights thread, showcasing top the top content for the year in a few categories. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  4. @Elchamo

I haven't used a linear piston pump yet, but as I understand it you don't need to "loop" pvc around the room for it to function, a "line" as you're describing it should work. I think you will want a valve at the end of your pvc line though so you can bleed off air if you need to.

  5. Crashing through the floor is a mode of failure, but more likely you'd have excessive deflection seen in walls or ceiling cracks. Concrete is typically designed for the reinforcement to yield and as it does it deflects a lot and the load is given a chance to spread out before failure.

And if it helps, in the US, residential floor live loads are typically 40psf and a deflection criteria, whichever governs. And 40psf is about 7.5in or 19cm of water deep if you could fill the room with it. But rooms can typically hold more since heavy things are nearly always placed against walls.

I've heard stories and seen videos of floors failing because the room was filled with people who are dancing in rhythm, but overloading against a wall is pretty rare.

  7. I don't know what bacteria or fungus inhibitor Flourish uses, so maybe they are worried about it losing effectiveness over time once it's open being exposed to air. One advantage of the Easy line is with pump heads you'll get much less air exposure and maybe effectively never have to refrigerate them.

I mix my own ferts and use 1 drop of methylene blue per ounce so I don't have to refrigerate and it has worked well.
