    Repashy

Hey all, I’m using repashy for the first time and have a quick question. When the instructions say to mix one part powder to 2-3 parts water are we talking volume? So if I wanted to make about 10mL of gel mix I would add 3mL powder to 6ml water?
  2. I wouldn’t risk it unless maybe they’re female guppies. I would only keep guppies with bottom feeders especially because they populate so fast
  3. I would think maybe stress. It took my male guppy about a week or a little more to go after my females
  4. I guess my first question would be what does it smell like? I’ve noticed a lot of tanks have a slight odor to them. Like a musty smell and if you have plants it will smell “planty” if that makes sense. If it smells foul it could be a build up of ammonia or protein in the tank. I have sand and a heavily planted tank and almost never gravel vacuum. There may be gas under there but I’m not sure. Sometimes I may stir up the debris on the surface and vacuum it out of the water calumn but it’s usually not an issue. I’m surprised you have gas in the gravel. I would think that the stones are large enough to not create caves in the substrate. Either way I would do a water test to see if there’s ammonia or other waste
  5. The khuli loaches definitely ate them. The eggs usually take a few days. I believe 3ish
  6. I used a different tube for the test and it read about 30-40. I think we’re in the clear but the tests still differ
  7. Good point. I’ve had it for just under a year
  8. Hey all, I made a post about this a while ago but I seem to still be having troubles with co-op test strips vs api liquid test for nitrates. Attached are photos below. Co-op reads 25 and API reads…160? I mean I’m no expert but something doesn’t seem right. I don’t see any stress among my guppies. They are swimming a bit fast and erratically but it could be cuz I fed them a bit ago. I also may have seen a flash but I can’t say for sure because it was out of the corner of my eye. Either way they’d be showing other symptoms if they had nitrate poisoning. They look very healthy. No signs of poisoning. They go crazy for food and aren’t showing lethargy or anything. I did a water change as well not too long ago just because I wanted to. I have dose 4 ml of easy green every 3 days in my 30 gallon which is barely above the advised amount. Pobably a quarter of my tank is taken up by pogo and another large amount by pearl weed (picture below). Both as you know are very fast growing. I also have other slow growing plants. One of my anubias has yellow spots on it which may be because of nitrate deficiency. The plants are doing amazing so I have to think there’s no way they’re letting nitrates get that high. If nitrates were too high the plants would have a shock I would think. I’m extremely confused and don’t know what my course of action should be. I did notice that when I left a co-op test strip for longer than a minute it became darker and darker but I don’t think that would be accurate because the instructions say to leave it for a minute. The picture was taken around the minute mark. I do use my api tubes to distribute fertilizer because the pump isn’t working that well. I guesstimate roughly 4ml. I rinse them throughly but I suppose it’s possible some fertilizer lingered in there. The tube was dry when I tested. Any comments or thoughts are welcome
  9. Popeye can cause blindness. If his personality is back, he has an appetite and his eye doesn’t look abnormal I’d say he’s okay. It’s tough to tell. I would try putting your finger or something close to him to see if he reacts. If it seems like a delayed reaction he may be partially blind. I think dorsal fins are more for stability so if you see him struggling to swim I would say that’s because of the dorsal fin, not missing the food
  10. The rhizome looks really healthy but if it was buried in the packaging there’s a chance it could be the start of rhizome rot. It may be just nutrient deficiencies if it wasn’t properly taken care of for those couple weeks. Or it could be nothing. My anubias has light brown spots on its rhizome and it’s not really an issue

    Fungus and Plants

That’s the one downside about not having a quarantine tank. It tends to create a lot of problems if you run into stuff like this. I think maracyn is generally plant safe. Personally, I wouldn’t treat a tank monthly. Medicine is expensive, and if you have a healthy aquarium there should be no need for it. My suggestion is to get a small 10 gallon quarantine tank. Makes it much easier and less expensive to treat fish
  12. I would do a water change but chances are it will lessen the effect of the other meds. I’m not too familiar with methylene blue but usually I wouldn’t mix meds unless extensive research has been done to prove they’re safe together. Like the co-op trio for example. I would do a water change and put some carbon in there. Maybe the fish will be fine with all the meds but I personally wouldn’t want to risk it. I usually only add meds if I see something visibly wrong with the fish
  13. That’s quite a mess. I hope you get it all figured out. I have detritus worms and these weird worms that are like planaria but the name starts with an R. I don’t remember exactly but they’re harmless. Sometimes I see one sliding along my glass but I don’t pay them too much attention
  14. I share some similarities to what you had happen. I’ve always had detritus worms however. They used to be worse but I got them under control. I just have 2 sponge filters so luckily no deep cleaning. I don’t clean them often so maybe it’s time to give them a squeeze out. It’s interesting in your case because it seems like there’s no direct cause to what happened. Maybe the nitrite spike happened because of all the heavy duty cleaning? Maybe the large water change stressed the shrimp into the red color? I know some shrimp can be sensitive to large water changes
  15. Sure, here’s a photo. The film is hard to see but this is what I could do without removing my lid, light, etc. What happened as a result from your foam?
  16. Aquarium co-op test strips and API
  17. Hey all, Ive been noticing some foam buildup in my tank. Ammonia is at 0 so I know they can’t be ammonia bubbles. Also they don’t stink. I try to do water changes once a week but I have a lot of plants so sometimes I don’t do it. What I have 4 guppies, amano shrimp, and snails. What could be causing this foam? It’s not air bubbles from the filter either. Maybe protein foam? But my tank is pretty clean other than mulm. Not perfectly clear water, but not terrible either
  18. I had one of my shrimp seem to disappear on me but there’s a large amount of factors that come into play. Shrimp eating live shrimp is extremely unlikely. It is possible they’re eating the dead ones -Water parameters. Make sure ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates are at safe levels. Make sure the water is slightly harder for the shrimp. Amanos May climb out of the tank of water parameters are unhealthy -Make sure you’re feeding them -Make sure they aren’t with any large fish -Some shrimp get stressed by transportation and die. I had that happen with 1-2 of my amanos after I added them into my tank
  19. Love his little waddle he does while swimming
  20. Hey all, Attached are my new pair of female guppies that arrived in the mail. It seems one has a cleft lip and they both seem to have a bit of an inward dent on their head. They have their fins clamped but they look to be getting better. They started to eat today. I also started treatment with kanaplex today as a safety precaution because of the clamped fins. What do you guys think about this. I doubt they have hole in the head but what explains these “deformities”? Will I be able to breed them or will these deformities have a high change to be passed to the next generation?
  21. From what I’ve been reading everyone says 2-3 months. Is it actually 4 months? What is the usual amount of fry you get per drop? Should I expect a low number or an insanely high number? I know it’s random but is there an average per say?
  22. How many fry can I raise in a 10 gallon if I aim to offload them around a month and a half to 2 months old? Or are you suggesting I raise them in the 10 gallon then put them back in the 30? Worst case scenario my 3 females drop 100fry each at the same time then I’m done for

    Curved Guppy?

Could I send a bunch of air through a sponge filter or would a powerhead be better? I’ll have to invest in an auto feeder to feed 4 times per day because I’m usually at school all day most days per week and I can only feed when I wake up, when I get home, and when I go to bed. I’ve never used them though because I’m a little paranoid of it overfeeding on accident. I have noticed my guppy laying on the ground at night. Did you do a test to see how much exercise effects adult life of guppies?
  24. How often do you change water in a tank with fry? Once a week? One every few days? Would it be beneficial to add fritzyme? When there’s fry?
