Plants will definitely help keep nitrates down.
If you want something free floating, cheap, and easy...its hard to beat hornwort. -

LOVE Guppies! PetsMart guppies were tough for me, I got some fry out of them but they all died off. The fry seem to be tougher though.

Do you like Korean food? It’s mostly protein and veg based.
Never had it!

The Czarista and I have started doing low carb as of the new year. Does anyone have some go to recipes to share!
I'll drop this one here for Eggroll Casserole
1 bag coleslaw mix (I used a head of cabbage and a couple of chopped carrots instead)
1 lb pork sausage
2 cloves garlic minced (or garlic powder)
1 tsp ground ginger
Salt / pepper to taste
1/4 c onion diced
Brown the sausage in a large skillet and add the other ingredients right on top. Cover and cook on the stovetop about 5 min on med. remove lid, stir/toss and taste. Finish to your taste/texture preference.- 3

Good luck with the Guppies! I think fry will be safe from scuds.

If making my girl beg for her pellets is wrong, I don't wanna be right! 😉
She seems to enjoy it, and I know I do.- 1

Well I can't NOT recommend guppies. 😉
We like our green neons, and I'd love to have a gourami tank someday.

Absolutely amazing!!! I don't know what I love the most. The sweet disco beats and clothes. The complete look of boredom from every member of the band at various stages. The fact the singer runs off stage for what I had assumed was some sort of bathroom emergency, only to reappear to perform a Kenny-G worthy sax solo. The camera person who eager jumped into the shot just before that. Or that at the end they are clearly saying goodbye to a fictitious audience. This is pure poetry, and every moment is filled with joy. Thanks for sharing!
The crazy part is all those people are the same guy! He's a one man show. 😉

@CalmedByFish & @patricia Thanks!
@GameCzar I'm new to guppies. I got my first ones in August 2020. I only recently mixed my boys and girls, and only for 2 days and I just had my first fry. Sadly, they were born on Dec 23, which was a very busy "get ready for the holiday" time and I didn't notice them until the moms had eaten almost all of them. I have 8 surviving fry and one of my girls died during pregnancy so I've got some mixed emotions about mixing the genders again. On a happier note, I really like your Wonder Woman journal. I might be inspired to do a Forest Moon of Endor themed tank someday.
@TheCzarista did a great job with her Wonder Woman tank!
Don't let the guppy breeding get you down, I felt like I was a murderer at first! It does get better, and there's lots of experienced guppy folks here!- 2

I don't understand the cold area question.
But no, I don't have anyone. I thought of that, but after that person were to go in and potentially be exposed, I couldn't be around them for about 10 days. So that's not really a viable option.
I just wondered if you living in a colder area is why you can't get fish shipped.
-
Are you in a cold area yourself?
I know there have been a few times I couldn't be with @TheCzarista when she was shopping for fish, and she video chatted me so I could look. Maybe you have someone who could go in and let you be there virtually?- 1

If you're breeding, I like plants I can get out of the way. I know @Guppysnail uses weights for a variety of plants, and I like horwort or guppy grass that I can easily remove to deal with fry.

I am an Amazon prime member and Coop still beats Amazon hands down for shipping speed…product quality customer service etc etc the list goes on 😁
I agree, and I'm about as far away from co-op as a guy can be!

I know anubias grow from a rhizome, but I have one on a small log, the roots are going into the substrate and coming back out a few inches away. Is this typical?
as long as the rhizome isn't buried, its fine. My nana-petite in my tank with fluval stratum has roots that go in and out.

I haven't quite figured out how to dial back the power of the power head, I've used it to great success cylcing/cleaning a fishless tank, but the flow is impressive. To be fair, we have smaller tanks.
