  1. I see no issues adding more. I am currently scrambling to get individual tanks set up for pairs that are laying eggs in my 75 gallon. I had 3 unpaired koi and just added another 10 koi and 4 Leopold Saturday. So far two spawns. I was able to grab one pair and move to another tank. They were actually doing a good job of defending their spawn on an anubius leaf. Moving them helped the rest of the tank relax and another pair started spawning. Went to dinner and by the time I got back all were gone and I couldn't remember which ones had spawned.

Just a matter of time before another two pair off. I have tanks ready for them now though. Really hoping I get a pair out of the Leopold's soon.

  2. My 165 gallon outdoor pond was stocked with 200 fancy female guppies that either had black bodies or red and yellow bodies. I had 50+- males from second generation "pure lines" that didn't meet the line standard that I added with them. This fall I will grab all of them too bring inside and slowly isolate similar cool looking stains and try to start something new from them. No idea if it will work but what else am I supposed to do with a foot or two of snow outside this winter?!?!?

  3. Uh oh 😬😳

    IMG_20210810_233903380.jpg.2a590fcad56d4f29735a608ae7032272.jpgIMG_20210810_233904798.jpg.99a4704f063d0bca41a635ba59481342.jpg

    The original pair.

    IMG_20210810_233944605.jpg.8941699b91e0c6364659bde71670a6ae.jpgIMG_20210810_233933963.jpg.839f113fcd2ad9b03d3c5d323f15d411.jpgIMG_20210810_233915677.jpg.f12a26f0cfd6bf331709e0835221947a.jpg

And a new pair in the singles tank. Looks like I need a few more tanks because these two are defending half a 75 and the other dozen angles in the tank are banished to the other side.

I was never an angel guy... Now I'm hooked. Absolutely loving these guys.

  4. @Griznatch they look to be about the same size as I got when I ordered online a few months ago. Of the 6 different species/variety of Cory I currently have they are by far the most skittish and camera shy. They are also the slowest I have to put on weight and length. 2 other species in the same online order have far out paced them despite arriving the same size in different tanks.

You will need patience with these ones as they grow out. I will update you if anything changes as they grow to full size.

  5. Depends on what your definition or experience with pleco's is. As a kid all I knew was the common pleco. I would consider a bristlenose a mini version of a common pleco and have tons of them now. They only get to about 5", have many color varieties and get along with most everything in a tank. If you are looking for smaller than @CT_ is correct with Otto.

  6. Something old, something new and something blue! 😂

Current stocking came from a little of everywhere.

Something old: Rehomed 3 types of tetra's for an elderly lady that couldn't take care of her tanks anymore. They will be good in here for a while until their tank mates grow. Moved 4 Otto's from what is now going to be a shrimp tank.

Something new: 5 platinum Angels about quarter sized. Looking forward to growing these out and watching them pair off. 4 long fin blue eye bristlenose.

Something blue: 6 beautiful electric Blue rams.

Most everything in the track is young and growing out. I'm looking forward to watching them grow and pair off. At that point they will probably get their own tank for a bit but for now I can just sit, relax and watch.

  7. Survival rate is looking really good. They can't be more than 48 hours from free swimming. Experienced breeders what do you think? Leave them in the breeder box with mulm for first food? Move them to a observation box with an air stone and feed green water? Stick them in the green water tank? Try out the new vinegar eels? Easy fry? First bites? LOL so many options on hand!!!

  8. Day two of wigglers in the breeder box. I cleaned out some mulm last night and counted 50. That is way more than I was expecting. Egg sacks are getting smaller. We will have to see what the survival rate is from wiggler day 2 to free swimmers. Very very hard to photograph on my phone. Here's my best.IMG_20210804_220845972.jpg.8e3a5aba619d54d9a4892b897e169e93.jpg20210804_221527.gif.0563b9dd5c96a14db569d767e356144d.gif

  9. That first and longer video would be a baby fish.  You must have had a hitchhiker on a plant or something from another tank or the fish store if you dont have anything old enough to breed in that tank.  But they could be from your Ranchus Goldfish.  I have had fish much younger spawn.

The second short video of the bugs are like you thought, nothing to worry about.  Whether they be aphids or springtails they are harmless to your fish.

  10. Well these guys were doing so well that they all got moved to a 50 Low boy opposite the Multi's. The pool filter sand I use must be super high in silicates because I always get some heavy diatoms when setting up a tank with it. I'm patient though and it will clear up. Crossing my fingers for second generation fry soon.

  11. I can tell you that the 3 feet I have from the outside ring and the center island is not enough. At least once a day I am bending down to do something on one side and bump into the one behind me. There is no issue of fish safety, just annoying. That and there is no way for me to take a full picture of my 150 at the center to post on here!!!

I would leave at least 4 feet down the isles if not more and always leave plenty of space above a tank and the next shelf for netting or swapping decor.

  12. After 24 hours from discovery I was able to find a few wigglers. I am happy to know that although he might have terrible aim, my male isn't shooting blanks. Although I didn't have a fungus issue, most all others turned white. On the other hand, I will be much better prepared and hopefully around for the next batch, this one is most likely on me.

I plan on getting a 5 gallon set up right next to their current tank and have a ready supply of RO water on hand for the initial move and subsequent gentle water changes.

I'll update if the few wigglers I could see come through and survive to free swimming.

Any advice from others experienced with Angels I'm more than happy to take it. I've watched the videos, thank you @Fish Folk, now I just need to implement!

    Definition here.

Also, to stay on topic...  I don't really have to say anything these days.  When people come into the house and see a 250 gallon tank, it tends to speak for me.

Despite that, I still manage to get into odd situations.  Recently a friend wanted to make plans to grab dinner, and suggested this Thursday.  I said "ooh, can't.  I've got something going on that evening."  My wife helpfully chimed in to let the friend know that I'd be attending a "fish meeting", to which my friend inquired why I was "meeting" with my fish.  Thinking this would improve the situation, I explained that I would be attending a meeting for the local aquarium society.  Turns out this did not help and was met with chuckles at the idea that I would go out of my way to seek people out to talk about my aquariums.  The response intensified when it was revealed that the meeting would be held over Zoom.  They then wanted to kn ow what was so interesting I couldn't miss it.  The topic: Rapidly cycling your tank.  Silence.  "So, another night then...?"

The struggle is real @OnlyGenusCaps.  I missed our BAP auction this weekend because of a family event out of town.  Then once the topic came up with family over the weekend I got nothing but blank stares...

See you Thursday though! Looking forward to the presentation and breakout room after!

  14. As I suspected. Finally home and unpacked. Came down to see this.

Looks to be less than half left of what was laid if you fill in the gaps or I compare to what I saw last time.

  15. @Bobbie's suggestion of Banded Cory is correct. They are the largest true Cory. Be aware though, they are a cold water species and cannot thrive in tropical fish temperatures. Mine are currently in my 150 with rainbow shiners, bristlenose, freshwater gobey and hillstream Loaches. The tank is unheated and runs between 66° & 70°. No idea what your larger fish are but keep the desired temps in mind.

  16. These two paired off just before tearing down my 95 Hex to move it upstairs. Their first spawn was in that tank on a Jungle Val leaf that I cut and pulled. It was very apparent early on the the male didn't do his job as almost nothing was fertilized. I suspected this as I watched her lay and he was too  interested in keeping others away than doing his job... He even came over to pose for pictures.

Since then I have moved them to a 20 long by themselves, a few plants and a breeding cone.

As I prepared to leave last Wednesday evening for a 4 day weekend I noticed they had spawned again on the cone. Being I was literally walking out the door I let the eggs stay in the hopes they would be there Sunday evening when I got home. I didn't hold out much hope as I wasn't going to leave the lights on over that time and they are still young. I wasn't wrong. No big deal, they will spawn again right!

Now as I prepared for another 3 day weekend I see they are getting ready again, 9 days later.

I was surprised to not see another spawn this morning. They are being fed well with spirulina flakes, black worms, frozen blood worms and live baby brine shrimp. Looks as if they will spawn again in the next 24 hours and who knows if I'll see anything when I get home on Sunday again.

I'll continue to update their progress here. They were half dollar sized in March when I got the group of 5. No other pairs have formed to date. They are now all between 2.5" & 3.25" (body without fins)
