  1. Good point. I think I'd be able to make a cover with that plastic crafting canvas and some course filter sponge. Thanks for mentioning how big the intake is.
  2. @Tony s So it sounds like the intake wouldn't be an issue if I cover it with a course sponge?
  3. @Pepere I guess another question other than the intake possibly be an issue (if I go with the fx2 and spray bar) is if the 407 would be powerful enough to keep the substrate clean once all the plants grow in. I feed heavily and tend to go for a jungle look with plants, so there is always a ton of mulm after a couple of weeks. I like doing water changes, but hate vacuuming the gravel.
  4. @Pepere I considered that, but wouldn't the input still be an issue? I don't have a ton of experience with canister filters. I was worried the smaller fish might get stuck to the intake. I do plan on having it covered with course sponge.
  5. I'm wondering if I would be able to reduce the flow on an fx2 for a few months in my 75 gallon. It's a community tank with most fish about chili rasbora size or slightly larger. A store employee warned me that reducing flow too much would damage the motor over time, so I decided to hold off on purchasing one. I do have med/high light and co2, and plan on having extremely heavy vegetation in this tank within 3-6 months. Would the Fluval 407 be a better option? I have a 207 on a smaller tank that I've been extremely happy with.
  6. 50w Forgot to mention that I can't find any cracks or damage to the glass.
  7. I bought 5 glass heaters and 3 out of 5 sound a bit like a kettle before it starts whistling when they are heating. Anyone ever experience this sound with an aquarium heater or know what could cause it? I let each one sit in the aquarium for a couple of hours before plugging in. 2 out of the 3 haven't been exposed to air since I put them in. They've all been placed next to sponge filters. The sound takes 2-3 days to start. Help!
  8. That's an interesting auto correct Lol
  9. @eatyourpeas Happy Thanksgiving! I always enjoy your posts. 🙂 I'm not super active here, but I'm thankful for this community. Lots of good people and helpful info.
  10. 1. Pygmy sunfish (Elassoma species) 2. Pygmy Corydoras 3. Crocodile toothpick fish (Indostomus paradoxus)
  11. @nabokovfan87 @Pepere Mystery solved! Something was stuck to the bottom rim which kept the corner from sitting flat... I did check the tank on multiple surfaces and that corner was always the problem. Not sure how I missed the gunk on the bottom, but glad it wasn't a wonky tank. Thank you to everyone that responded!
  12. @Chick-In-Of-TheSea I used shims between the 2x4 rack and the sheet of plywood to get it level. The tank had the same issue on a completely level, smooth countertop, so I don't think it's a matter of the plywood or stand not being level. I emailed the manufacturer to see what they say.Too late to return unfortunately.
  13. @Pepere Unfortunately it's a new tank but past the return window. I emailed the manufacturer to see what they recommend.
  14. @ComradovichIt's a rimmed tank. I am really just concerned about the one corner that isn't completely flush. @nabokovfan87I checked the tank and the shelf that the tank will be sitting on with spirit levels. I tried putting the tank on several other smooth, level surfaces last night and it's always the same corner, so it might be a problem with the tank rim. I'm going to put some kind of foam or cork under the tank (nothing thick enough to push up on the bottom pane) and call it a day. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't worrying too much about such a small gap at one corner. This project feels like it's taking forever and a day! Thank you for replying!
  15. I can slide a piece of paper under one corner and the middle of my 33g long. I can't get a debit card under any part of the tank and the plywood shelf is level side to side and back to back. Am I safe to fill the tank or should I wait until I can get that back corner to touch the plywood? I tried using a 1/2" yoga mat under the plywood and that didn't help.
  16. The dominant male usually hangs out in front and I see the females in the plants pretty often.
  17. I posted here 3-4 months ago about possible eggs that showed up in my Elassoma gilberti tank a week or two after I got them. I saw teeny-tiny fry not too long after and now they are fully colored up! I am hoping to keep a self-sustaining colony. I made sure to line up a shop that can take some if breeding is too successful.
  18. I am limited to sponge filters unfortunately. That's the issue. I'll probably just find other tanks to use the regulator on.
  19. I would like to inject a small amount of CO2 into a 33g long (approx. 48"x12.5"x13"), but I'm worried about getting enough circulation to distribute it throughout the tank. I am restricted to using sponge filters and most of the stock will be tiny nano fish that don't appreciate a lot of flow. I wouldn't be worried if it wasn't such a long, shallow tank. I'll have 2 medium Aquarium Co-op sponge filters at both ends and plan on having a pretty dense stem plant jungle. I considered adding a power head next to the diffuser once the stem plants really fill in. I could also add a manifold and have a diffuser at both ends. Am I worrying about nothing? Any input or advice would be appreciated.
  20. I did that and ended up having issues with nitrates. My anubias and java ferns greened up and growth exploded once I started adding Seachem potassium instead of extra Easy Green.
  21. Yeah, but most of the large scale fish trade is pretty gnarly. I don't want to get into the ethics of glofish since this is just fantasy.
  22. I'd want glofish versions of all my favorite nano fish... Boraras species rasboras, peapuffers, pygmy corydoras, pygmy sunfish, kuhli loaches, and clown killifish. I have a glofish betta and they are really beautiful in heavily planted tanks.
  23. Are you a Channel 5 fan (All Gas No Brakes)? Ypu have beautiful tanks!
  24. My bettas have done a lot better with rasboras (Boraras species). A couple of my green neon tetras were fin nippers, but you might not have that issue with your neons.
