Father Fish irks me a bit. He obviously has a ton of success doing things his way and definitely has more experience and knowledge than I do. But the idea that there is one way to do things and he does it correctly while everyone else is wrong doesn't sit well with me.
Now I admittedly have only watched what is occasionally posted on this board so it is possible that I am completely misrepresenting the man and his opinions. But from what I gather it seems like he's got it figured out and everyone else is doing it wrong in his opinion.
this is the thing, there is more than 1 way to get the desired result, and to do so without causing harm to the fish involved.

Yeah it has carried over for years and is still super popular among new aquarium hobbyists @face
a lot of us old timers do it too.

You could also try a braided vinyl hose.
yeah, something like that. python hose is very high quality, but it is not really intended for high pressure.

I got really conflicted right now. On one side I am afraid my tank is not readily cycled and the fish died due to too many fish come in before i have enough cycling to support them; on the other hand the remaining 3 keep fighting...
start slow, you can add a few more fish over time, as the tank builds a good bacteria colony. one important thing to keep in mind, no one has ever entered this hobby, and not killed a few fish in the process. there's a learning curve.

so the glass there, and the flame arrester stuff in the next slot down? gonna look freaking incredible.

id not worry about the old leaves. keep an eye on the condition of the new leaves. sometimes it takes many months for the emersed grown leaves to die off.

surprise, they can hold sperm for many many months. it is a female guppy. i dont think she looks pregnant, but it is possible.

Yeah, I suppose that would work fine
Yeah. I put it in an empty hob cartridge. As long as I’m not covered in black dust and it doesn’t bleed into the water, it’s good.
you should rinse your carbon in cold water first to get the dust out.

for the most part, carbon is carbon. some is dustier than others, but its all the same.

@lefty o ok maybe a little dueling banjo here however the whole thing WILL be the focal point of the room so hopefully what we do with the inside of the tank will match.
1 chili rasbora!🤪

so the tank will be the secondary focal point!

holy cow, this thing is going to be killer. going to look great, and you cant get much more durable finish than powder coating.

its just a bacteria/fungus, and it is non harmful. it is absolutely normal with spider wood, and it will go away on its own. to speed it up, you can pull it and wipe/rinse it off, or fish will also nibble at it. its unsightly, but dont worry about it.

Crypts do indeed shoot out runners when provided with the right light and nutrients, but in my experience they need to get fairly big before doing so.
Mine shot runners in about 3" of gravel - they got regular root tabs and medium light from a Fluval Plant 3. It may not be obvious they are runners - mine didn't travel as far as say, Val runner do. But when I pulled them up to move to a new tank, it was obvious what the new plants/runners were.
yes, i should have worded my response better, i get new crypt leaves popping up all over.

they absolutely will root deeply in gravel. have them in my 120, and if you crawl under it and look at the bottom of the glass, it looks like someone spilled a giant pot of spaghetti. 2-2.5" of gravel is sufficient .
Is there a way to get a plant light on this tank?

if it is a common sized tank, you can usually get glass lids that work well with most lights.
