  1. I've been thinking about a lot in the past few weeks & it's time to come to a conclusion about it so I can come to my final decision I went to the fish store yesterday & seen the start of my thoughts. Say what ? After I got my Rainbow shiners & watching them the past few weeks, that's what made me thinking about another aquarium, I wrote a post about it, (Time to rethink things). I have been thinking about getting a 65 gal aquarium to start a new colony of another breed of fish just like I have a nice start with the rainbow shiners, I see them starting to change colors now. They are so COOL LOOKING that I want to start a colony of W C minnows & get them going like I have the rainbow shiners in the 75 gal, I got some WCM, not long after the rainbow shiners. I put 6 of them in the tank with the shiners a few days after getting the shiners. & after watching both breeds awhile, that's what made my decision for me just by watching them mingle in a 75 gal tank. It's funny how things like that can happen & something that small can help with what you have always wanted & get you started in it without you even knowing till it falls in your lap to make it happen. So let's talk about what got you into the hobby with your special fish, what gave you the idea to get in the hobby of raising the breed or breeds of fish you have? & what do you like about it ? Thank you for your time & comments, I pray you have great success with your fish & invite others to join the hobby with the rest of us & become a great enthusiast in this hobby. 2. (This is by far my most ambitious project ever, on many levels, but I do feel pretty confident about my odds of eventual success) I kind of pictured what you are working on & my 1st thought was that's going to be 1 hell of a job putting all that together & what it's going to look like after it's all done & running, it's going to look really cool, I hope you will have a video on it after it's done.
  3. I've had times when I had to change my substrate out more than once & I have to say it's a bit of work doing it but once it's done you'll be glad you did it, I'm looking to change some of mine out of a 75 gal. As well as some other things I want to do while I have the tank empty (no-fish) & that's to take part of the ugf out of the tank cause I don't need the plants I have growing through the trays & have to cut them. So if you plan on redoing it it's best if you think it through 1st so that you won't have to do it again, cause like I said it's a job on a big tank.
  4. Just go to what you see in your eyes & vision what you want that's the best way to go about this task, cause the more you work with it the more you will get what you want from it.
  5. I have 2 in a 75 gal aquarium & 1 is a bit smaller than the other 1 but when they come out to look for food their a sight to watch they dart all over the aquarium & all under the rocks & plant's & they disappear out of thin air, they are so cool to just watch. I have another aquarium a 30 gal & it has a good bit of snails I just pull out & feed to the loaches just to feed them a snack & they do a great job keeping the snail population at bay, they don't eat my nerite snails or my Ramshorn snails that's a plus. So if anyone who is on the fence about owning these fish don't be, they're pretty awesome to watch play around they don't eat the plants unless they have dead leaves they WILL uproot them if there not deep enough 4-sure. If you have any yo-yo loaches spread the love of these little critters, they are fun for entertainment in a tank they will argue a little but nothing serious to worry about as long as they have plenty of space to get away from each other & some place to hide that's pretty much it.
  6. That's what I strive for when it comes to my aquariums if something doesn't look right or doesn't feel right I'll find a way to make it right no matter how long or much it takes. I've been thinking instead of a 75 to go with a 65 gal it's close to a 75 except it's just a foot shorter which would be good for the stand it's going on & with a canister filter & maybe not even go with any fish but plant's, cause that's what the 75 gal was for at 1s.
  7. I'm always thinking of ways to better myself & looking for ideas to make whatever I'm doing better for better results later on in life.
  8. That's probably why I can't grow any But I Think I can fix where I can have both & have the floaters blocked off from the top 3 inches B-low the water line so they stay at 1 end of a 75 gal & the 2-power heads I have on a ugf won't bother the floaters, I have plenty of sponge 2 inches thick I can cut to fit 1 end of the tank. Better yet get a long but small basket & start your floaters in it & as they grow have you a goldfish pond or even a grass carp in a rubber 110 gal pond wild caught fish will eat duckweed it's like candy to them.
  9. Depending on the type of goldfish you get does good in a community tank look on you tube or goggle on it, It's pretty interesting to check out.
  10. I've been retired for awhile, I'm not looking to get in another hobby I'm not looking to expanding my fish, I'm looking for something in the fish hobby that will expand my enjoyment of the hobby, yes I'm working on the side of growing plant's as well, so I've thought about Instead of a 75 gal to go with a 65 gal which is the same size ALMOST as a 75 gal just less water volume (10 gals) I could work with that.
  11. Well that's 1 way of doing it I guess, but you more or less didn't solve it you curbed it for larger tanks which works too.
  12. According to the people that's been in the hobby for yrs swear by it & if you want to get as good as they are, it doesn't hurt to learn from them like father fish & Cory, & L R B, & learn from doing research. My experience with Mulm has been that plant's thrive on it better than anything else in the tank that's why I went with a under gravel filter system, to pull it to the roots.
  13. I'm undecided on do I want to keep the fish I have or just sell them back to the store & try something else. But I would like to get another 75 gal to work with where I have more room to work with for the fish.
  14. Thank You, that's what I was saying, I'm retired & have plenty of time on my hands to do more enjoying than doing work on the tank daily. It may require more this that & the other but once it's done your done I can work on a tank for days & still want more to do but with just 1 75 & 1- 30 gal which 1 will need more attention to keep up with ?
  15. The smaller tanks are harder at keeping the water levels right they need to be maintained more often & the bigger the tank is the less messing with it you have to enjoy it more & that's what I'm looking at if I was to do a small tank I could do that but the bigger the tank the more room fish have to be happy in.
  16. I enjoy my fish & the hobby very much, I do like the smaller type fish in a big aquarium cause you can have a lot but not too many to over load the aquarium but just enough to enjoy the activity they give. I also enjoy colors in a tank when it comes to fish something that has pronounced colors just seems to make a aquarium glorious something like the tetras, the cardinals, & something that will match up with each other & show off in their tank setting.
  17. I'm undecided on should or shouldn't I get another 75 gal aquarium why would I be undecided on such a thing as that ? for a few reasons #1 why would I need another 75 gal, #2 would it be wise for another 1? #3 do I have enough fish to get another 75 gal aquarium for them ? Well let's see what you think if you were on the fence about this The 75 gal I have now has 14 rainbow shiners & 6 white cloud minnows & 2 yoyo loaches & in a 30 gal I have 3 zebra danios, 3 leopard danios 8 albino Cory cats, BUT the 3 zebra danios is in my diy basket I made cause out of 15 of both I'm down to 3 each, that's why I use the basket. I have a 20 long & & 30 long aquariums which I could use & be done but their already in a 30 tall which I thought would be enough room but with the 2 baskets in the tank that takes up space for them & I'm thinking if I was to get another 75 gal I could trade the danios for something else & make a whole new species aquarium out of it. If I was to get another 75 gal what would you put in it not just to breed but to enjoy ? I like the molly's their pretty cool looking to put in a 75 gal get a few different breeds of them to mix & mingle + they will keep the algae down & give live fry to resale if I want. I'm also thinking about selling the Cory's as well with the danios & just starting over with a new 75 gal cause I don't want to add nothing else to the Shiner / rainbow tank I have going right now. So what do you think I should do ? just change aquariums from what their in to 1 of the other tanks I have on hand OR go with another 75 gal & start new again & set it up like the other 1? Thank You for your suggestions & help your all are awesome.
  18. Well after 3 mons & no fry I would pretty much say their not holding any fry that I've seen so far.
  19. The only thing is I don't have the space for different tanks so I don't need any extra fish popping up on me till I can get a bigger tank like another 75 to replace the 30 gal which is very over stocked right at the moment.
  20. When I had the guppies that was my 1st at having fry & was doing everything I could to save them all & the more I saved the more they had so I finally gave up on it & got out of it.
  21. I just got them off the cuff being I some store credit & I just happen to get both females so not worried about fry.
  22. I've never seen any with spots, is why I asked, cause the 1's I seen in my tank have been all black & real small, but now that I have 2 yo-yo loaches I shouldn't be having any show up.
  23. That should cut down on the evaporation better, but I would have made the back holes a little smaller, & put a small door for feeding to keep it sealed as much as possible that's why I did mine on the 75 like I did & it works great. But hey like I said, it's awesome & may just do the 30 gal.
  24. From what you said you are doing on the algae you keep on top of sounds like the best there is, cause that's the same thing I do as well. I have found that you do all the algae cleaning OUT of the water it helps to keep it from spreading in the tank, so just keep up what you're doing till you get what you want & you will get there. I watch l r b & how he does his tanks & some other fish keepers & from what I hear about algae it's a love /hate thing with fish tanks.
  25. I've got 2 mollies in my 30 gal, I had them in my 75 gal B-4 I had to move them to the 30 & the bba I had they cleaned it off my java ferns, & since they've been in the 30 gal there's no algae.
