I had a fabulous afternoon. I got to meet @TeeJay and Hanna in person. They visited on their adventures. They gave me this fantastic coffee mug 😍. It’s always so fun to meet my forum friends in person.
Hanna got to net all her own shrimp she even managed to catch Big Red the prettiest largest red girl That was after she got to feed both fish rooms herself including grindal and white worms 😃That is such a cool mug!! I need a t-shirt that says that lol

So, starting to get more interested in trying to breed several of my fish for fun and profit (hopefully 🙂). After watching some of Cory's videos on his early fish rooms, I'm looking at using his cinder block rack and building one rack to hold my tanks. For the most part, all of these tanks I already own (I might be short 1 20H tank). I'm big into saltwater (have a 92 gallon reef), and want to use an extra sump I have with this rack. This will allow me to run a single pair of heaters to heat the entire rack instead of heating each tank. Currently, the rack will be in my office which is part of our in-law suite, and I plan to keep the room heated/cooled into the mid 70's. I'd love to use the heat the room, not the tank principle.
Anyway, here is my initial design. Please give me any constructive suggestions you might have.
Green lines are supply, red are returns.
The red line out of the sump will be a selenoid controlled drain on the sump to allow me to do automated water changes. When it is opened, the sump will drain out and the auto-topoff will keep the pump chamber filled with fresh water. This will allow all tanks to water change at once and only use a single pump for all circulation.
Each tank will be connected to the pump and use drip irrigation emitters to control the flow into each tank. I'm hoping that a 1-2x turn over an hour should be sufficient. Thoughts?
Thanks,TCoach
Looking good! I have had the same rack system with cinder blocks going for about 4-5 years I think and it works very well for me

That looks super cool! I only have pink/red ramshorns, so that is something i've never seen before.

I know this isn't really related to the post, but that rack of tanks with the guppies and bristlenose looks absolutely amazing! Brine shrimp too. What strains of guppies and plecos do you have going?

I threw this little 1 gallon flower vase together yesterday. The substrate is Fluval stratum, and it has some scrounged wood and rocks from the creek below the house, some java moss, an anubias, and some stem plant I found floating in my koi pond in the backyard.
The only light on it is from an Edison bulb in the table lamp next to it.
We'll see what happens...
I love this idea, very simplistic and beautiful! I am certainly tempted to set up something like this. I agree with @Miska that some nice red cherry shrimp or maybe a nerite snail would look great in there!!

Super excited to see how this goes!! I am also from Maryland (deep creek lake area-western) but it is great to see that you are taking steps to protect the bay!!

An underwater white and blue light combo from Amazon. Do I need to get a better one?
In an ideal world it would probably be nice to have a better light, but for low light plants it will probably do fine. Just keep an eye on the plants and if they seem to be struggling, the light may be the culprit. Hope this helps

My brother had an African dwarf frog in our shared bedroom and it was definitely louder than I expected. Would not recommend😂

Maybe some cherry shrimp instead? They tend to do better with lower temps, but I definitely understand that you want some fish. Some H. Formosa possibly?

Hey neighbor!!-western Maryland here;) I don’t have a ton of experience with summer tubs, but I had 2 a couple years ago and used a solo sponge filter in each. If you have more than one tub I’d probably go with one species in each, but if you only have one then you would probably see fewer numbers of each, but it would still yield results.

Welcome to the forum!! For a bottom dweller, kuli loaches are a great option, or you could go with some smaller cories like pandas

Thank you! In regards to your question, I believe it is completely personal preference. I don’t have as much time/ interesting things going on in each aquarium to do a separate thread for each, so I have consolidated them all into one journal, but I certainly enjoy reading posts on specific aquariums!

Love that val in the 40!! What fertilizers do you use? Any special light or substrate? Thanks

Welcome @Afishionado your aquariums look amazing and I appreciate your thoughtful introduction of each! It sounds like I have a similar fishkeeping style to you, so I will enjoy seeing what you end up doing with your aquariums!

There are so many options to pick from. I would probably do guppies or endlers, but there are many interesting tetra species that would look amazing too! Welcome to the forum!!

Crushed coral works well for me. I have had success with guppies from aquabid in the past

You might be a NERM if you stop by your lfs more than once a week on the way home from baseball practice to seee if they have any new fish and to sell plants to them....

Update, did not share any pictures in the last month because I had to fight the most horrible case of diatom algae.
I understand that it is because I am using seiryu stone that made my GH on the higher side 10 degrees . The plants struggled .
Today finally I can say I pretty much algae free
Easy green helped a lot!!
plus got a better light and a upgraded CO2 system for consistent light green check. (The pictures are from early morning)
Ludwigia white converted successfully can't wait to see it fully grown .
Pink flamingo still converting .
Ludwigia repens growing like a weed.
The algae sadly killed most of my scarlet temple , and made the s. repens struggle. But it's ok now.
Nana petit got green spot algae but it's expected and the Amanos loves it
Finally decided to go with golden white clouds for this one. I turned off the heater to help the plants and I want a simple and enjoyable fish. I think that it will look great
Will share again as everything is fully grown and converted
This tank ended up being a "learn how to grow plants tank"
Wow, that looks amazing!!

One of my lfs keeps one as a “mascot” and it is super cool, but definitely out of the question for 99% of aquarists.

So, I have been very intrigued by dirted tanks recently and decided to set up a 3 gallon cube in this way. I am not using any filter in this aquarium and I don’t plan on putting any fish in it as of now, but that could always change. I started with a mix of potting soil and dirt from my yard
Next, I capped it with a thick layer of sand to keep the dirt from getting into the water column. Lastly I added a few struggling crypts from my 75 to see how they do.
If anyone has suggestions or comments on this setup, I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance!
