Fair. I did really like the topic @quirkylemon103, but flame wars suck for everyone. It is a pity that sometimes, due to the actions of a few, we cannot have nice things. I am seriously considering attempting a UGF in the future, I remember them being pretty great back in the day and when I restarted the hobby I didn't even know they still exsisted. 🙂 If I do, I will be sure to document my efforts!!

I am thinking about switching my 20 long to a ugf too, and to fix some other mistakes like not having plant weights, and not painting the sides, and back

A bunch of people reported it. Hostility towards mods and other people. It’s as simple as be nice to one another. Anything else won’t be tolerated. There are hidden posts in it, so if you come across it after the fact it may not make sense.

ok I was very confused why it was locked. maybe you could add "removed hostile posts" in the lock reason 🤷‍♂️

The angelfish are breeding again today. The temperature in the tank is lower than I thought would promote breeding. I don't use a thermometer but the house is about 70°F and when I stick my hand in, it feels like about 70°F. But nature finds a way. I think this recent round of egg laying has been prompted by upping the amount of blackworms I am feeding them.

that's great, I noticed my kribs had fry a couple days ago

    how big are blackworms?

  5. so I need lights for my tanks but I can't afford 4-5 finnex stingrays(1 12inch, 2 20 inch, maybe 2 48 inch) I remembered Bentley pascoe made a video on JC&P lights. has anyone used them? what is the color like? can you post a picture of a tank with them?

Thanks. btw I prefer to buy from aquarium co op but I can't afford multiple finnex stingrays

All good! I think if you have any Java moss to add, do that. It will be chock full of infusoria.

Take ca. 1/4 teaspoon of powder fry food, and stir it up in a mug of ca. 8 oz. of tank water. Then draw out with your pipette to feed fry.

I have plenty of java moss. I will try to get fry food as soon as I can

So... (sorry I’m confused) ... you _did_ separate the babies??

no the parents spawned in the qt tank that I don't have any other fish in.

What do you mean by “the bigger one”?? Is there a runner fry, who is growing faster than the others?

    bigger adult.

sorry I have no social, or grammar skills.

What's up with this guy? See video below.  I've had the corys for 6 months. This is my daughter's tank, so admittedly I don't pay as much attention to these fish, but I noticed one of them spinning yesterday, but I watched only briefly and thought it was just excited. Today, the swimming pattern is a lot crazier and obviously something is wrong.

    • PH 8
    • Nitrates 20
    • Hardness 6 dGH
    • Nitrite 0
    • Ammonia 0
    • KH 7 dKH
    • Temperature 75F

Tank is over a year old, no other fish showing symptoms.

I have the same issue with pygmy cories(the only kind I have kept) sometimes it goes away sometime the fish dies 😢

I think live bbs are best, but they might nibble on some thawed. Just watch and don’t overfeed. We use a Walmart 10-ml. suspension syringe from the pharmacy with a ca. 5-in. airline tubing attached to gently feed fry.

I am tried feeding some frozen daphnia in a 3ml pipette the babies didn't take it but the bigger one would eat directly from the pipette

Yes, any fine fry food / powder can work for Kribensis fry.

Honestly, you shouldn’t need to separate fry from parents at all.

Beware of any other fish that might predate on fry. Mom & Dad Krib should take turns guarding fry. They’ll even suck them in their mouth, and spit them out elsewhere to move them around.

they are in a qt tank with a ceramic pot and some java moss it is just them currently

Awesome! Here’s a video journal to help you out...

Powder fry food can work once they’re free swimming, but BBS is best.

Kribs are usually great parents. You shouldn’t need to separate from parents.

We use aquarium salt for hatching BBS, but look up online... maybe reef salt could work??

Keep the questions rolling. They’re probably about 1-week old.

is easy fry food the same as powder fry food?

that's good, what age should I separate them from the parents?

I did some research and I think it will work.

have you had luck with feeding them defrosted frozen bbs?

Cory has mentioned in this video that he uses marine salt to hatch baby brine shrimp:

  13. My kribs had baby's!!!!! what should I do? I plan to order san Francisco bay brine shrimp eggs, penn plax breeder net, easy fry food. should I lower the water level? do I need to worry about the parents(fighting, eating fry, etc). can I use reef salt for hatching brine shrimp? how do I know how old they are? they are sort of swimming but they can't swim open water for very long.

  14. I am thinking about using the 75 as my main planted community tank, and moving the danio to my 20 long, then using the 10 gallon the danios are in for breeding guppies, and shrimp

also the 10 gallon saltwater has water I am currently adding salt slowly
