Welcome @purpledingo, MTS from the start---gotta love it !!! What is the name of the floating vine plant with all the roots in the tank with the red betta? I haven't seen that one in the U.S.

Hard to be sure from one photo but it looks maybe to be planted too deep. The stems appear to be coming out of the gravel rather than from the crown of the plant.

Welcome @Fresh Princess. glad to have you onboard. No cure for plant addiction!! I could see some crypt spiralis or jungle val in the back ground.

Glad to have you with us @Deb Mac. I'm not an expert so I welcome correction but I believe your fish is a Forked Tail Rainbow commonly called a Furcata.

Totally agree with you @rockfisher. When I first tested my tank water for potassium I came up with a big goose egg, 0, zero, nada!!! That 's what motivated me to buy dry, individual, fertilizers so I could adjust accordingly.

I second Mmiller2001's recommendation of Landen Aquasoil, my ammonia and nitrites cleared 14 days after setup.

Could auntie have done a water change or top off on her own without using a de-chlor agent?

Head and Tail Light Tetra, one of my first fish---takes me back to my childhood (and that's a while back).

Plant mid way through a water change, that way you will only get wet up to your elbow.😀

Root tabs are generally good for a couple of months, liquid fertilizer is usually dosed once or twice a week depending on the type and density of your plants.

Get your tank planted, post a photo and folks will be happy to advise you from there.

Your tank could have multiple nutrient deficiencies if API Leaf Zone is all your using. Leaf Zone is great for adding potassium and iron but that is all it adds. Most all planted tanks will need a complete and balanced fertilizer that contains all the macro and micronutrients. There are many to choose from, Easy Green is popular on this forum.

Hello, @Lilred, happy to have you on the forum. Plenty of plant information to glean here. Since your using Eco Complete don't forget to add fertilizer.

Placed 2 small struggling Italian vals in a 2 L square plastic peanut butter pretzel jar. Planted them in 1.5 inches of Miracle Grow Organic potting soil, 3 weeks later they had new leaves and looked healthier than any val in my tank.

Welcome to the forum @MichaelL710. That's a beautiful growth of val (Italian?), do you know the pH and KH of the val tank?
