  1. @nabokovfan87 Thank you for the reply. After last night's reading I think I'm not doing enough root tabs so i plan on doing more. bi weekly 3 per plant. I also don't think my substrate isn't think enough. The lack of substrate is causing the root tabs to leach into the water column and causing the staghorn algae. currently its only 1inch deep. There was an Aquarium coop article that says 2-3 inches is preferable. Is that correct?

  2. Hello All,

I just wanted to get some input on nutrient deficiency for my Amazon sword. This is a 20 gallon tank stocked with 5 glow fish tetra's, 4 hillstream loaches, amano shrimp and 3 pea puffers. Plants in addition to 2 amazon sword, 1 dwarf aquarium lily, java moss and Vallisneria. I was considering reducing my fertilization schedule due to staghorn algae but the Amazon sword plants seem deficient in something. The plant on the left is older, while most of the leaves are fine some have darker veins and a warp/twist to them. The plant on the right is newer the leaves are not as dark as the other plant and have dark veins, 1 leaf is kinda floppy.

    Fertilization schedule:

Tuesday = 1 aquariumcoop root tab per amazon sword
Thursday = 2 pumps easy green
Saturday = 1 aquariumcoop root tab per amazon sword

    Thank you for your help.

  3. So I've had my 3 pea puffers from Aqua Huna for over a month now all are alive and well. To this day none of them have expressed any interest in any food other than the pest snails living in the tank. Any one else have this experience?

  4. @nabokovfan87Yeah, that video is where I got the Idea from. I'm also not opposed to having it in the middle which he also mentions but I just don't know which is best. The down fall of the middle is you'll need tall plants to hide the inlet since its in front of your face when looking into the tank.

  5. Hey Gang,

I'm considering moving my HOB from its current position which is the back left of the 20 gallon tank to the ride side facing the left. The idea was that you would get a better circulation if the water is sent out across the tank rather than to the front of the tank. Any thoughts on this ?

    Thank you,
    Ryan

  6. @JettsPapa Yeah, i'm going to pick some frozen blood worms up today. They aren't eating the freeze dried bloodworms or freeze dried brine shrimp. I don't know what i can't see that is in my substrate but every morning I see them pecking at it. Perhaps there is worms or tiny snail eggs they are going after.

  7. Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to get your thoughts. My 3 pea puffers which i recently got from Aqua Huna have not really taken to the food provided. They are much more interested in what ever I can't see in the substrate. I have tried Frozen Brine Shrimp from Aquarium Co Op and Vibra Bites from Hikari. They came very small as you can see below so perhaps that's why? Fortunately there are plenty of snails + what ever they are going after in the substrate.

    Thank you,

    Ryan.

  8. @nabokovfan87 Hello, Thank you for the reply. Given the make up of easy green it has a significant amount of potassium in in 9.21%. Is your solution to the above photo to just add in an extra pump per dosing? As stated above the current fertilizing regiment is 2 pumps of easy green 3 times a week (20 gal) with 1 easy green root tab for each of the following plants. Amazon sword, aquarium lily, amazon sword. The below is the break down of easy green liquid nutrients. Or what is a secondary bottle of something you think i should add?

  9. Hey Gang,

Hoping to get some insight since my plants are struggling

As you can see from the photos a lot of wholes in my plants. some yellow discoloration which leads me to believe its a nutrient deficient combined with pest snails that like to eat even new fresh leaf's. 20 gallon tank I does with easy green 3 times a week 2 pumps each time and 1 root tab per the following plants. amazon sword, aquarium lily amazon sword. The tank also has valisenaria and java moss. Fish 6 glow tetra's 1 nerite snail. lots of pest snails. nutrient test stip shows the following as far as i can tell (partial color blind) 25-50 Nitrate, 0 nitrite, GH 300, KH 120, PH 7.2-7.6, 0 Chlorine.

When water changes since its 0 chlorine I never use the fritz complete binding because their shouldn't be chloramine if their is no chlorine?

If there is any other information you need just ask 🙂

    Thank you,
    Ryan

  10. Hey Everyone,

I use easy green 3 times a week. I went on vacation recently and missed 2 doses. I came back and had a few yellow leaves which tells me there is not enough nutrients for the plants in the tank to miss doses. I don't see that aquarium co op sells a dosing pump. Does anyone have any recommendations?

    Thank you,
    Ryan.

  11. So the first photo is of the sickly looking glow fish. The one below that is his healthy brother. What would of caused this? Both fish are well over a year old. Tank test strip says things look normal. I doubt the sickly one makes it through the day but i was curious the cause.
