  1. Hey Everyone,

So i think i've finally got my tank "balanced". I haven't done a water change in a week the Nitrate is at or below 50 ppm. I do easy green liquid every wed & Saturday, with a once per month addition of root tabs. For the longest time now even with high nitrate my plants have always had holes in them. Would this be caused by the white pest snails? I've given up on getting rid of them but i'm not sure what is causing the holes in the plants and i'd like to get your thoughts.

  2. Hello All,

So it has been one week since i have stopped using easy green liquid and root tabs. I did this in order to hope that the plants absorb the nitrate. So far i don't think i've seen much improvement though my wife says i am color blind so hard to tell. I think the nitrate has remained at 50. But I have noticed that the plants themselves are starting to get wholes in them. The hair algae I had hasn't expanded but hasn't gone away either but because i've used the easy carbon it hasn't kept growing. I'm considering adding root tabs back in the hopes of the plants regrowing without holes and wanted to get everyone's thoughts.

  3. @JJennaI mixed it in with the substrate. @nabokovafan87 I'm not sure your correct on 60-70 being good. According to aquarium co op, fresh water should be 70-140 ppm. But as there are only shades of color on test strips I'd guess mine is at 50 ppm, so it still has ways to go before i'd call it good.

  4. Hello,

Recently I noticed that my PH had dropped to 6.4, my KH has always been low. Yesterday I finished adding 2lbs of crushed coral to my 20 gal tank. How Long should it take to raise the KH? Based on the test strips it is now higher than 40 ppm but not quite 80 +

    Thank you,

    Ryan

  5. Hey Everyone,

I live in Central Florida and I can't seem to find any petsmart or petco that sells Amano Shrimp. Any ideas on where else I should look. I have a 20 gallon tank so i was looking at getting 3, i think 6 or more would be to many for my size?

    Thank you,

    Ryan

  6. Hey Gang,

As the title says i'm dealing with some Spotted Green Algae & Hair Algae. I cleaned the tank last week and within a week its back. My 20gal tank currently has 2 nerite snails (wanting to add a 3rd), 6 Glowfish, 2 Amazon swords, and newly added 1 java moss & 1 week old dwarf lily bulb. Lighting is the fluval 3.0 set on auto from 6am to 6pm. How best should i go about reducing this algae? I've thought about adding a Reticulated Hillstream Loach but my LFS does not carry them. I also don't think they would eat the hair algae, just the spotted green?

    Thank you,

    Ryan
