Croaking vs Sparkling Gouramis

Has anyone kept both the croaking and sparkling gouramis, and if so, what did you perceive as differences?

I bought mine as sparkling gouramis, but they make a loud croaking sound. They are so small that my guess is they are Trichopsis pumila. I have referred to them as Croaking Gouramis also, but if they are what I think they are, then this is incorrect as they are probably not Trichopsis vittata.

From what I've seen, Croaking Gourami are a little larger (most say about 2", but some say 4") and more subdued coloration, also a little more robust, supposedly.

I'm about to find out, since I just got a pack of 6 vittata on sale from an online store, in part because I think they sound sweet and probably get overlooked, in part because they (and everyone else, seemingly) were out of stock of pumila.

The LFS told me sparkling gouramis only croak when they are breeding.  Mine croak and breed frequently.  I like them a lot.
