Hydra

Some one told me that brine shrimp eggs from brine shrimp direct  cause Hydra in your tanks.

I'm wondering if thats true because I'm raising a fry and started to see hydra in the breeder box.

Any experiences?

Hydra are supposedly inert in household dust and gravel and things like that, they just tend to start multiplying and actually showing some size when you’re feeding fry because you generally have to over feed a bit and they benefit.

Baby brine shrimp are hydras favorite food. You may not notice that you have a couple of hydra lurking until you start feeding baby brine shrimp.

But as to hydra being introduced by Brine Shrimp Direct eggs, I am skeptical. I have used Brine Shrimp Direct eggs over the years and never noticed hydra in connection with that brand.

I don't think freshwater hydra tolerate saltwater very well also.

I used to have a huge hydra problem in my fry tanks, then I used fembendazole sold as a dog dewormer (1 drop for every 6 gallons, single use), and all my hydra and planaria disappeared. Never seen either again in any of my tanks
