LaurieinIA
Tell me about hospital tanks... with my African cichlids, I feel like I’ll need one eventually. I treated an recent injury using a mesh basket because that’s all I could come up with at the time. Lack of funds & space prevents me from purchasing another complete setup. What is the most economical way to be prepared? What size do you recommend? Do you keep it up all the time? If not, how do you fill it... water out of main tank or new water? What else should I know? Thank you!
FrozenFins
Irene from girls talks fish has a storrage rubbber maid that she uses for a QT tank and a Hospital Tank. You could simply put the rubbermaid on the floor. I dont have my Hospital Tank runing all the time, but instead when there is no fish in the tank I drain it and put the filter into one of my established tanks. This will keep the beneficial bacteria alive so I can fill the tank up whenever I need. Heres a video @Irene did on her QT/ Hopsital Tank setup:
LaurieinIA
@James Black that looks simple enough... and reasonably affordable. Thank you!
LaurieinIA
@Irene can you tell me about the filter you use in this video? I’m only familiar with my HOB filter and yours appears to be more than an air stone.
Janelle
I’m pretty sure she used this type of filter https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/sponge-filters/products/aquarium-co-op-coarse-sponge-filter And you could use this air pump if you don’t have an extra laying around. https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/air-pumps/products/usb-nano-air-pump
FrozenFins
It looks to be what Janelle said, a sponge filter. They are super cheap and affordable especially if you already have a air pump. All you need is air stone, airpump, airline hosing and the filter. If you get them all from aquariumcoop.com it will cost you $23.
